You Can Tell Me Anything

Ty's POV:
I felt hurt as I walked home from Annie's house. Why didn't she say anything? And why did I walk out?

My head is a tornado of questions and emotions.

"Tyler! Is that you?" Mum yells from the kitchen.

"Yep. Sorry to disappoint." I say as I walk into the kitchen where Mum's cooking chicken parm.

"What took you so long?" Mum asks.

"I stopped at Annie's house on the way." I answer honestly.

"How is she?" Mum asks.

"Good." I say pouring myself a glass of juice.

"Oh yeah. And what did you two do?" Mum asks.

"Talked. Where's Katie?" I say, trying to change the subject. Mum picks up on my uncomfortability.

"Katie is in the living room playing with Kyle. Now, just remember you can tell me anything." Mum says putting her hand against my cheek.

"I love you Mum." I say.

"I love you too." She says as she kisses my fore head.

"Kyle come set the table! Can you please unpack the dishwasher?" Mum asks turning to me.

"Sure." I say as Kyle walks in the room.

"Hey bud!" I say passing him a stack of plates.

Half an hour later we are all sitting around the table eating Mum's chicken parm.

"Mmm! Yum!" Katie exclaims.

"Thank you, baby girl!" Mum says smiling.

"I'm full as a tick!" Katie says as she takes her empty plate over to the sink.

After the rest of us have finished eating dinner I grab Kyle's and my plates and take them over to the sink.

After Kyle goes to the living room, Mum says. "Remember, you can tell me anything Ty." Mum says as she kisses my cheek and walks into the living room.

If only I could.

Somehow Katie ropes me into Troll Hunters with her. I spend the next hour making her laugh at how bad I am at playing it.

Eventually I tell Katie it's time for bed and take her up to the bathroom to brush her teeth. She decides she won't brush her teeth unless I brush mine.

"Fine." I say as I squeeze the toothpaste onto my toothbrush.

After we brush our teeth I help Katie get dressed into her pajamas.

"Can you get Mum? I want to say my prays with her." Katie says.

"Yes ma'am!" I say as I walk off to Mum's room and knock on the door.

"Mum?" I ask.

"Be there in a minute!" I hear Mum yell.

A few seconds later Mum opens the door. "What do you need?" Mum asks.

"Katie wants you to come say her prays with her." I explain to her as she smiles at me.

"You are such a good brother. Goodnight, honey." Mum says as she kisses my forehead and walks across the hallway to Katie's room.

When I'm back in my room I feel my phone vibrate. I quickly grab it, hoping it is Annie.

Just an app notification.

I remember when Mum was telling me about how she and Coach Cal were going on a date she said. "You can't predict who you're going to be attracted to." I understood what she meant then and I understand better everyday.

I lay back on my bed, still wearing my jeans and t-shirt, and fall asleep thinking about how messy life is.

The next morning, I rush to get ready. I've showered, gotten dressed, eaten and brushed my teeth within fifteen minutes of waking up.

I call Gabe, asking him to pick me up and even though he is still half asleep, ten minutes later he's out front my house.

"Morning." I say passing him a cup of coffee.

"Thank you!" Gabe says downing the cup in under 20 seconds.

"Now I'm awake!" He says as he starts the car.

"Wait! You asked her if the kiss meant nothing? And what did she say?" Gabe asks as we walk up to school.

"Shh! She said nothing." I say quietly.

"Dude. You have fun! I told you this whole thing wasn't gonna end well!" Gabe exclaims.

"Now, let's get to the matter at hand." Gabe says.

"You need to break up with Cece. You can't keep dating her, especially when you don't know your feelings."

"I know! I just need to figure out how to break up with her." I mutter, frustrated, as we walk into school.

I head over to my locker, shoving all this drama with Annie out of my mind.
