January 1997 saw the last appearance of John Deacon performing on stage with Queen alongside Elton John. He had informed Brian and Roger a couple of weeks earlier that after this concert he would be retiring from the music industry and public life.
With his retirement, Amelia remembers the letter that she needs to get to him but can't find the right time or place to give it to him.
She could ask Anita or Brian to give her a lift to John's, but then she would have to tell them why and she doesn't want Brian or Roger to find out there is a letter in the box for both of them. Like her dad told her, he wants them to retire by their own hand not just to get the letter.
