George lets go of me on the bottom of the steps, handing me my coat. "What has gotten into you?" He asks, full of annoyance.
"What, only you're allowed to fight people?" I spit back, pulling my coat on.
"Mira, why did you let yourself get so upset? You're never like that." He cusps my cheek tenderly, trying to swallow his anger.
"Did you hear what they were saying?" I say as I try to remain calm.
"They were lying, love. You should've just ignored that girl. If she had started hurting you I wouldn't have been able to stop myself" He takes my hand and begins to walk upon the fresh snow. It had snowed heavily overnight, leaving inches of white powder beneath our feet. I walk with him silently.
"If you still have some pent-up aggression, I know how you can relax..." He says as we near my willow tree.
"Are you being gross?" I gasp, feigning innocence and biting back a laugh.
"No," he chuckles, "but if you wanted me to be gross, I can be so gross!" He leans in and kisses me tenderly. The moment lasts only a few seconds before an icy cold streak runs down my back.
"George Fabian Weasley!" I complain as he bends over, face contorted with laughs.
I grab a chunk of snow, throwing it at his face. He pins my arms to my back, throwing us both into the snow. I giggle as we crash to the ground, my heart racing. How lucky I am to have a boy like this? We spend the rest of the day playing in the snow, building snowmen and messing about.
It feels like only moments pass before it's time for dinner. We walk back into the castle, hand in hand. When we finally arrive, the air of the Great Hall is tense. It seems as if the whole Slytherin table had something to say about me, all whispering and staring. I scan the room for Adrian without thinking, but he is nowhere to be found. George and I sit with our friends, our hair windswept and appetites large.
"Erm, Mira?" Harry asks, nervously.
"Yes, Harry?"
"Why does the majority of the Slytherin table look like they want to hex you?"
"Harry!" Hermione slaps his arm as she reprimands him.
"Oh mate, our dear little Mira Mason fought a Slytherin this very morning!" George says smugly.
"Yeah right" Fred interjects, his tone full of disbelief.
"Brilliant!" Ron says at the same time, to the annoyance of Fred and Hermione.
"Is that why we've lost twenty house points this morning?" She huffs.
"C'mon Hermione, who gives a damn about house points? Tell us the story, Mira!" Ron says excitedly.
"It wasn't a brawl or anything-" I start.
"She jumped across their table like this!" George leans over the table and grabs Harry's shoulder, making him jump. "She was pulling this girl's hair; it was actually quite scary if I'm honest."
"Did she deserve it at least?" Lee asks.
"She was being vile." I answer, not giving any more detail. George is silent as well.
"Well, what else could you expect from a Slytherin, eh?" Lee jokes, trying to defuse the sudden tension.
The group resumes a lighthearted discussion, Fred and Lee explaining their latest dungbomb prank. We continue to eat until we are all stuffed, then make our way to our common room. We all sit on the couches near the fireplace; a lightheartedness that hadn't been present for weeks finally settles upon us.
George and I sit together, his arm around my shoulders. Ron is deep into some story about a nightmare he has regarding spiders, and George holds me closer to whisper in my ear.
"Love, are you alright? Are you still mad at those girls?" He prods.
"Just forget it," I whisper back.
"I just want to understand. I don't want you to be upset." He rubs his hand along my arm. "They don't know anything, love"
"But they think they do." I whisper, tension building in my chest. I don't want to tell George the truth, but I can't lie to him again.
"Why's that, Mason?"
"Because Adrian told them it is." I whisper after a short pause. I can feel his shoulders tense. "Just forget it, alright?" I quickly repeat, afraid of what he would do to Adrian.
"Alright." He sighs, looking uncomfortable. He continues, "Although I wish you hadn't attacked her... I have to admit, it was kinda hot" He chuckles to me before looking back to the group. His arm is still tense around me as he resumes talking to everyone. He calls Lee over to us, then begins to whisper to him.
Lee nods, turning and going to Fred and talking quietly with him. His eyes go wide and he nods, but they all remain exactly where they are.
"George, what did you tell him?"
"Suspecting the worst from me?" He asks, mocking offense. "I was only telling them to not come into the room for... a few hours." He stands and takes me hand, pulling me to stand with him. "We'll be back," he calls vaguely to the group, pulling me closely behind.
"You did not" My cheeks burn red from embarrassment.
"C'mon love. I need to teach you to control your temper." He winks, making my stomach fill with butterflies.
He leads me to his room, pulling me into his bed. He casts spells onto the door, bringing me closer and kissing me gently. He kisses me everywhere as he lays me down, quickly removing my clothing. I tug at the hem of his shirt, and he swiftly reaches to his collar and rips it off in one clean sweep.
He moves his mouth to my neck, kissing me softly. Just as he reaches under my shirt, we hear a loud bang from downstairs. "What was that?" I ask breathlessly, placing my hand on his shoulder to keep him slightly away from me.
"Nothing dear; I'm sure it's nothing" he replies, pushing back down to kiss me again. There is another loud bang downstairs, followed by a yell.
"George," I push him away, and he gets out of the bed. He pulls his shirt on, gripping his wand tightly.
"Stay in here, alright? Lock the door and stay here." He kisses me on the forehead before he opens the door, quickly shutting it behind him.
Curiosity gets the best of me, forcing me to get out of bed. Instead of pulling on my jeans, I grab a pair of George's shorts, rolling them to keep them up. I grip my wand tightly, then open the door and run down the stairs before I can change my mind. Another boom rings in my ears as I am halfway down, quickening my pace.
At last I reach the common room, finding Lee laying on the ground at my feet. Fred and George stand in the middle of the room, their backs to me. I push forward, anxious to see what everyone in the room was staring at. The boys both have their wands raised, as do Harry and Hermione off to the side.
At the entrance of our common room stands Adrian, wand pointed directly at me.
