Adrian and I spend most of the morning on the broomsticks, messing about and and racing each other. After a few hours, I descend and land on the ground.
"I'm absolutely starved, how about we go eat?" I offer. He nods and takes the broom from me, carrying it for me back to the shed. "Thank you for taking me here today. It was loads of fun." I say, pulling him into a hug.
"Of course, precious. I'm sorry about everything." He says, his cheeks pink.
"Stop apologizing, love. You've got nothing to be sorry for." I tell him, pulling on his shoulder. He kisses my cheek lightly, and finally smiles.
"Let's get you something to eat. Great Hall? Or do you want me to bring something to my dorm? Perhaps a picnic?" He asks, his eyes searching my face.
I sigh. "I'm not upset with you. You don't need to make it up to me, I know what you're trying to do."
"I just want you to be happy." He says.
I look to the ground. "I am happy. I'll eat wherever you'd like." I tell him, wrapping my arm around his waist.
"Alright. Let's have a picnic. I haven't taken you on a date in way too long." He says, squeezing me tightly to him. We walk to the castle, the quiet air of the morning refreshing. "Go on to my room, under my desk I have my picnic blanket. I'll get everything else in the kitchen, alright?"
I nod to him, pushing away to go to the Slytherin dormitory. I make my way happily, entering his common room while I hum to myself lightly.
I walk to his room, looking through his drawers for something to wear under the sweater. I chuck Julia's sweater in Adrian's hamper, grabbing one of his clean ones and one of my tshirts. As I begin the change, the door creaks open.
"Just a minute!" I shout, dressing as quickly as I can.
"Oh, sorry. I was just looking for one of my books." Marcus says, walking to his bed. My cheeks blush and I throw the sweater on, reaching down for the blanket under Adrian's desk.
"I'm off, just needed to grab this." I say, turning to leave.
Marcus clears his throat. "What's going on between you and my girlfriend?" He asks.
"Girlfriend? What are you on about?" I ask, crossing my arms.
"Vicky. She came crying to me yesterday talking that you hate her. Wouldn't tell me why." He says, crossing his own arms.
"Bugger off." I say, walking out of the room. At the doorway, I pause and turn back to him. "So she's your girlfriend, just like that? Why her? Why not Julia, who wanted you for so long?"
He shakes his head. "Vicky is much more... mature."
"And why would someone so mature want to date someone as vile as you?" I spit.
"If you haven't noticed, I've got a lot of money." He smiles, his crooked teeth pointing in all different directions.
"You're a prick." I say, finally leaving.
Fuming, I walk out of the Slytherin dormitory entirely, not looking back at all. I don't know how Adrian and Julia could be friends with people like Marcus.
I walk up the stairs to the ground floor, my hands shaking with rage. I try to calm myself, but my deep breaths ring in my ears. On my way to the double doors, I feel myself lifted off the ground.
I yell lightly, but look to see George and Lee walking behind me. "Fred, let me down." I say, tapping his back lightly.
"No. We're kidnapping you. We haven't spend a day together in ages! This is unacceptable." Fred says, carrying me out of the doors and to the grounds.
"I've got a prior engagement!" I shout, trying to wiggle out of his grasp.
"Mira Mason. You are our best friend. What could be more important than a day with us?" Lee says, a smile clear across his face. George and Lee giggle to each other, glancing up at me.
I sigh, knowing I will not win. "How's your little girlfriend?" I ask, to which he blushes.
"Jennie is great, alright. Yet it seems she'd rather spend her time with Gabriela, which hasn't worked on in my favor." He says, his cheeks pink.
"Lee can't get her by herself. Poor guy, he's been friendzoned." George chuckles. His cheeks are a fresh pink, and his eyes finally look bright.
"Shove off, Weasley! Don't get me started." Lee jokes, pushing George playfully. They two pretend to wrestle, only messing up the others hair.
"Can you listen to me? I was meant to eat with Adrian just now, I'm starved." I complain. My stomach growls as if on cue, and the boys fall into a fit of laughter.
George reaches into his coat pocket, bringing out a small bag. "I told them you wouldn't have eaten yet, it was too early. I grabbed you some stuff from the Great Hall." He says, blushing.
"Thanks Georgie." I say, quietly. "But he's going to wonder where I am." I say, looking to Lee.
"No! He is not invited. You've tried to rope him in on our hangouts too many times." I hear Fred say from under me.
I sigh, knowing it was true. "Just tell him you've kidnapped me, would you?" I ask, and Lee nods.
"I'll go. But don't set anything off without me!" He says, turning to run back to the castle.
I begin to eat the food George had given me; Fred's slow pace lulls me almost to sleep.
"Guess what, Mira? We've designed our own fireworks!" George says, bursting with excitement.
This was the George I loved to see. Happy, friendly, mischievous. He wasn't upset with me or trying to seduce me; he was just being him.
"It's the middle of the day. Why are we testing these now?" I complain, my mouth full of food.
They boys don't answer, but I can see George has a large grin plastered on his face. We continue walking until we reach the edge of the forest.
Fred and George begin to work on the contraptions Fred was holding in his other hand, setting them down and angling things. George reaches into his coat pocket, handing me a small, oblong object.
I take it and notice it's a neatly rolled joint. I move to hand it back to him, but he stops me. "Come on, Mase. We haven't smoked in ages." George says, handing me a lighter.
"No, I haven't smoked in ages. I'm certain you smoke all the time." I laugh, clicking the lighter on and bringing it to the end of the joint.
I inhale and almost immediately cough out the smoke. The boys and I all giggle, and push Fred's shoulder lightly.
"Yeah, we can tell it's been ages for you." Fred laughs, watching me take another hit. It goes down smoother than the first, and he takes the joint from my hand.
He inhales deeply, handing it to George. "You haven't told me why we're doing this in a clear day's sky." I press, taking a deep drag when the joint comes back to me. Fred casts aguamenti and I cup my hands, drinking to calm my coughs.
"Well, we've been working on making these special. Perfect for any time of day." Fred smiles.
"I know how much you like fireworks, Mira. Thought you'd like to see it." George says quietly, his eyes already starting to narrow.
I chuckle and shake my head when the joint makes it's way back to me, and we talk quietly as we wait for Lee to return.
This is nice, I had missed my boys. I don't know what caused this shift; perhaps Charlie had spoken to George for me. In any case, I'm glad to have my best friends back.
Lee comes back a few minutes later, nodding and waving for us to start. He finishes the joint for us, and Fred brings the lighter down to light the first firework. We take cover and watch as it explodes in the sky.
