About a week has passed since Adrian's birthday. It's as if he had completely disappeared. He was absent from the Great Hall for meals (I had checked, which I don't like to admit). He never went to Divination; I sat with George instead.
My time with George was innocent; he respected my boundaries and never tried to touch me in a way more than friends. It shocked me, seeing that he wasn't trying to jump my bones like he had before.
Now, a Friday evening, I sit in the library by my lonesome. I sit at a table to the side of the room reading a book, trying to study. I feel a light tap on my shoulder, and I turn quickly to see who it was.
"Hello there." A boy says, pulling a chair next to me.
"Hey Ced, how are you?" I ask, smiling brightly.
"Better now that I'm sat next to you. I haven't seen you in ages." He complains, pulling a book out of his bag.
"It's been three days, Cedric." I giggle, immediately getting reprimanded by the librarian.
Cedric shushes me mockingly, and I shove his shoulder. "Not to be daft, but I've heard something interesting about you." He tells me, making my heart race.
"What do you mean?" I ask, my nerves making my heartbeat ring in my ears.
He smiles a small and shy smile. "I've heard you're a single woman. Why didn't you tell me?" He asks, shutting the book I was reading closed.
I roll my eyes. "I don't remember which page I was on!" I complain, avoiding his question.
I take the book back and skim through the pages, trying to find my place. He only looks at me, smiling lightly at me. His gaze makes my skin grow goosebumps, and I try to ignore them.
He only says one word. "Mira."
"I didn't tell you because of what you told me, if that's not obvious." I say, crossing my arms.
"Merlin, you act like I'm a wild animal! I'm not going to jump on you like some pig." He says, a mock face of offense lining his expression. I only know he's faking it because of the smirk that can't leave his lips.
"I'm not ready to date anyone, as it were." I say.
"Who said I want to date you?" He says, his face suddenly serious.
My cheeks grow red with embarrassment. "Oh, erm, sorry. I just assumed-"
"I'm joking, you dunce. I know you're probably not open to dating now, but eventually you'll crack." He jokes, playfully pushing my shoulder.
"Get in line." I joke, moving back to my book.
His voice cracks as he responds. "Are you serious?" I giggle lightly, trying to contain myself so as to not get reprimanded once more. I nod, and he bursts into laughter. "I knew you were too fit for your own good!"
"Shut it!" I laugh, lifting my book to cover my face.
How bold he was! I blush behind the book, and peek over the top to try to see what he was thinking. His face holds a light smile, but he reads from the book on the table in front of him. I place my book back on the table, and try to get back from studying.
Cedric's hand moves to my knee. I look up, but his face is contorted with focus as he continues to read. I look back to my book, my ears pink.
A throat clears from in front of me. I look up and find George and Fred, smiling brightly.
"Hello sister!" Fred announces, getting shushed immediately. He shoots daggers to the librarian, but she pays him no mind. "You told us you'd tutor us in History of Magic, do you remember?"
