"Hello everybody, what's going on?" I ask the group in front of me, faking a smile. Lee and the twins grimace at me, their offense clear on their faces.

"Well hello, what are you doing in our common room? Haven't you switched houses? I thought you were a full blown Slytherin now." Fred says sarcastically.

I am taken aback by his words. I had spent only a day with my new Slytherin friends; surely they were not actually hurt by my actions.

"Have they taught you parseltongue yet?" Lee asks with a slight edge to his voice.

"Godric, what is wrong with you? I'm allowed to have friends outside of this group, you know!" I know I have struck a nerve with my words; the boys all stand up and cross their arms.

"What wrong with us? We're not the one's fraternizing with the enemy!" George says. This is the first thing he has directly said to me since I had refused to give him another chance. His words fill me with anger, but I bite my tongue.

"We always watch the last game together, Mira. And you left us to go sit with gits you don't even know." Fred criticizes.

"I'm sorry I missed one game. But like it or not, you're going to have to learn to deal with me having friends... with me dating Adrian. I love you guys, but you're being complete knobs." I say, trying to maintain my composure.

The boys look to each other, unsure of what they want to say to me. I look to Fred, begging him to tell the boys to let off. He grabs George by the shoulder, telling him it's alright. The boys relax, their expressions softening as they reach out to ruffle my hair and hit my shoulder.

"We just miss you, girl... Why don't we diffuse some of this tension, yeah? Tonight seems like a great night to pull a prank, doesn't it?" Lee asks us.

"What about the Snape prank?" I suggest, raising an eyebrow.

The boys all agree, and we make our way to the dungeon in a pack. Fred and Lee decide to do the actual switching of the labels, leaving George and I to watch the halls. It is awkward at first, and we don't speak. It seems as if he needs to take several deep breaths before he turns to speak to me.

"Sorry I've been so insufferable." He says, turning back to watch the other end of the hall.

"I want us to be friends, George." I reply, not accepting his apology. He shakes his head.

"I know, as do I. It's just... difficult when I know you're with him." He looks to his feet.

I walk over to him and reach for his hand, which shocks him. We stand like this for a moment before I pull away. We don't speak.

It feels as if hours pass, but in reality it is only a few minutes before we hear footsteps coming down the hall. George and I look to each other in a panic, not wanting to get caught by whoever was patrolling the corridor.

He grabs my arm and pulls me close to him, kissing me quickly; an explosion of butterflies hits me in the stomach. I start to pull away, but he whispers for me to play along. I kiss him back hesitantly, and to my delight hear us get reprimanded.

"What are you two doing down here? You lovebirds better be off to bed! If I see you down here again, you will find yourselves in detention!" I hear Professor Flitwick shout. I pull away from George, my cheeks red. I apologize to Flitwick in a shaky voice and he leaves in a huff.

"Sorry. It was the only thing I could think of." George says. It was a common way we avoided getting in trouble before; I had even kissed Lee this way in year four. I know it means nothing, but now things are different.
