A boy sits at one of the counters, eating something I can't distinguish off of a plate. I only see the back of his head, but his blonde mess of hair doesn't look like anyone I know.

I walk past the boy, smiling lightly at him when he moves his head to look at me as the house elves begin to greet me. I ask them to prepare me something small, and they run to complete the task at hand. The boy turns his whole body to look at me as he eats. "Harpies fan?" He asks.

"Erm, what?" I ask, my cheeks growing red.

"Your jumper, it's the Holyhead Harpies, isn't it?" I gestures to my sweater.

"Oh, right. Yeah, my dream was to play with them." I tell him, blushing lightly. I extend my hand, and he takes it with a smile. "I'm Mira."

"Jacob." He says with a grin. My attention goes from his row of painfully white teeth to his other facial features. A nice nose, strong eyebrows, pretty brown eyes. He drops his hand and goes back go eating his meal. "You play quidditch?" He asks, between bites.

"Used to. I was on the Gryffindor team until this year." I look away, watching the elves run around as they cook.

He looks at me curiously. "If that's your dream, why'd you stop?" He asks quietly.

"I wanted to focus on studying."

There is a pause. "Good decision. Much more rational." He decides on telling me.

I laugh lightly. "Reckon you're not into quidditch?"

"I'm a Ravenclaw; our team is only marginally better than Hufflepuff. Everyone knows the cup's going to either Slytherin or Gryffindor, there's no point." He says with a smirk.

A house elf hands me a small container, and I thank her. "Well... I'm off. It was nice to meet you." I tell him. I begin to walk out, but before I leave I pause. I turn to face him. "Do you have a date to the ball next week?"

"I reckon you, now." He smiles. "You're a very pretty girl. How do you not have a date yet?" He prods.

I blush lightly. "It's complicated." I whisper.

"Boyfriend problems?"

"You can say that." I say, looking at my feet.

"I'll be sure to make him jealous enough for you. I'll see you around, Mira." He tells me, turning his back to me and continuing to eat his food. I blush and exit the kitchen, shutting the door behind me. I jump with elation. How perfect. This boy was good looking, and held a conversation easily enough. He didn't have to be my soulmate, I only needed to be his best friend for one night.

I make my way up the stairs of the castle, flying up the steps and reaching the common room in no time. The door flies open and I run to find Lee and Fred sitting by the bay window. The window is slightly open, and occasionally one of the boys leans his face over towards it.

Of course, they're smoking. I walk over to them both, a smile beaming on my lips. "Not sharing with me?" I ask, leaning to take whatever they had in hand. Lee hands it to me, and I find it's one of those flavored things everyone has been obsessed with.

"You brought food!" Fred smiles, taking the box from my hands.

"Hey, that's my dinner." I complain, trying to take the food from his grasp. He lifts his hands out of my reach and begins to eat the sandwich inside.

"I'll get you something else later." Fred mumbles, shoving my food into his mouth.

I push him aside, leaning towards the window and smoking from the green device. It's positively sour, and I blow the smoke out quickly. "That's horrid! The pink ones are better, so you know. I'm going to go find something better to smoke... or eat." I complain. I turn to go to my room, but Lee stops me.
