Sleep escapes me. I toss and turn, but I cannot rest. My arm still aches slightly and my thoughts keep my head full. I sit up in bed, seeing that Adrian is fast asleep in the bed he lays in. With a sigh, I kick my legs out of George's bed. I decide to make my way downstairs for a glass of water, trying to be as quiet as I can in the creaky house.
The stairs groan below my feet despite the fact that I try to step as lightly as possible. I make my way to the kitchen as noiselessly as I can, looking for a cup in the cabinets. My arm aches as I try to reach the cups just out of reach above me.
"Need some help?" I hear behind me. George stands there, rubbing his eyes.
"Sorry." I say, stepping back so he can reach a cup for me. He grabs two small cups, bringing down a small kettle as well.
"Tea?" He asks. I nod, and he begins to prepare it for us. "I'm surprised I'm the only one up. You were stomping a storm coming down here."
I blush before responding. "Heavy footsteps." We both laugh, and I watch George as he pours tea into the cups. "Thanks Georgie."
He nods, and we sit together across the table from each other. We drink the tea in silence for a moment. Suddenly, George reaches to me across the table. "I'm sorry you got hurt today." He tells me.
"I'm alright. Just a little sore now." I look away, but do not move his hand from mine.
"I've missed you." He whispers.
"I missed you too, George." I say, looking to him. A tension settles over us, but I don't know what to make of it. Adrian was just upstairs; I remind myself that I must not give George any sort of false hope. "You're a great friend."
His face falls. He looks away for a moment, before standing slowly. He leans over brings my hand to his lips, but pulls away quickly when a voice calls out from behind him.
"What's all this?" I hear. Behind George stands Fred, smiling at the sight in front of him.
"Nothing." I say, my ears reddening.
"Didn't look like nothing." He answers.
"It was nothing, Fred." George answers, his own cheeks growing red.
Fred smirks. "Alright; Serve me a cup of tea and I'll believe you." He joins us at the table, looking from George to me repeatedly.
I look away, not wanting to see his judgmental, questioning glances. I finish my tea and stand to take my cup to the sink, finding Fred has stood up as well. I push past him and he laughs, blocking me once more.
"What do you want?" I ask, full of annoyance.
He smirks. "How's Cedric Diggory doing?" I blush at his question, shoving his shoulder and walking past him silently. "Come on, you can tell us." He taunts.
"What's happening with Cedric?" George asks quickly.
I turn to face them. "Nothing. We're friends, just friends may I emphasize." I turn back to the sink and begin to wash my cup. The boys are silent behind me, but I do not turn to them. Without warning, a strong hand lands on my shoulder.
Fred takes the cup out of my hand, setting it down as he lets go of me. "Come on, Mason. You're sure there's nothing there?"
I look to George, who keeps his face neutral. "Yep. Certain. Can we drop this?" I ask. The boys look to each other once more.
"Why don't we play a little prank tonight, since we're all up already?" Fred proposes.
George breaks out into a small smile. I think about it for a moment, but decide to go along. "What do you have in mind?" I ask, both excited and nervous.
