I hear Adrian's voice before I see him. "You barmy git. I've had enough of you running your mouth." He says, and I walk into the common room to find him pinning Marcus against the wall.
I don't want to say anything; Marcus deserves a little roughing up. But I know that Adrian will regret this later, so I decide to try to pull him away.
"Adrian, come on. You don't have to do this." I beg, touching his shoulder gently.
"What if I told her the real reason she ever got in your bed, huh?" Marcus spits, his eyes holding a strange sense of amusement.
Before I can register what's happening, Adrian punches Marcus in the face. The common room explodes, and people move to tear the boys apart. Terrence holds Marcus, pinning his arms behind his back. Draco and Crabbe each hold one of Adrian's arms behind him, and Goyle jumps between them, his hands on Adrian's chest.
"You nutter! Marcus, are you alright?" Victoria cries, running in front of him and inspecting his face.
"You wretched bitch!" I say, walking up to her. "You drugged him! You're the scum of the earth."
I grab a fistful of her hair, yanking her away from Marcus. I bring my arm back and swing, connecting with her cheek.
She yells, flapping her arms wildly. Just as I bring my arm back to swing again, I feel someone pull it back. I lose my grip on Victoria, and turn to see Jacob grabs my arm, pulling me away. Julia is behind him and quickly jumps in front of me.
She begins to walk me the other side of the room, leaving Victoria crying into her hands. Adrian breaks away from his teammates and walks calmly towards me.
"What is wrong with you two? The pair of you are acting mad!" Julia says, her eyes full of concern.
"Victoria is a walking pile of garbage." I spit, watching Marcus console her.
"You think we don't know that?" Julia says, bringing a hand to my shoulder. "And you? Punching Marcus after bumming a cigarette from him?" Julia chides, her judgmental eyes glancing over him.
"He's been asking for it." Adrian states, smiling lightly. "You, however, need to stop getting in fights. Learn to control your temper."
My blood boils at his hypocrisy. "That's rich, coming from you." I mutter, and Jacob finally releases my arm. I try to take a deep breath to calm down. "What are you doing here?" I ask him.
"Jules and I were just playing chess when you lot decided to start a fight club down here." He jokes, wrapping an arm around Julia.
I look back and forth between them, and take another deep breath. "Sorry to interrupt you then." I say, grabbing Adrian by the arm and pulling him towards the exit of the common room. We make our way up the steps silently.
At last we reach the ground floor, and through the open double doors I can see the sun shines brightly outside. My anger begins to subside, and I lead Adrian out the door.
We sit at the base of my tree, overlooking the Black Lake. "You didn't have to attack Victoria, you know." Adrian tells me, picking at the grass.
"Yeah, I did." I whisper, looking over the water. He places his hand on my thigh absentmindedly, gently rubbing his thumb against my bare skin. It's rather chilly out, but his touch warms me.
"I'm not some sort of victim. You think a girl like Victoria- actually whatever. I don't want to talk about it." He says, and I glance at him.
His jaw is tight, and his eyebrows are slightly furrowed. My shoulders sink a bit, and I scoot closer to him. We sit side by side, and his hand slowly creeps up my thigh.
