69. Apologies

I had fallen asleep in Fred's bed to avoid seeing Katie; he slept on the floor next to the bed. I now lay awake in the early hours of the morning, hearing the snores of my best friends. I don't want to go to Divination today; I don't want to see Adrian. This realization hits me square in the chest. I don't want to see Adrian.

He had been so mad, seemingly for no reason. The old Adrian had acted this way plenty of times. He was brash, cold, uncaring. But this was not my Adrian. My Adrian was thoughtful; he was kind and always put me first.

It may be that this was the problem. I remember that Adrian had never had a girlfriend before. I can't pin everything on him; I had accidentally created quite the reputation amongst my classmates. Perhaps Adrian couldn't handle what people thought of me- and I don't know if I can blame him for it.

I don't know what this means for us, but I know that it won't be anything that is easy to solve. I sigh and sit up, deciding to shake the boys awake so we can get breakfast. They're all dead men in their beds, waking them proves to be close to impossible.

At last I have awoken them all, and we sit in their room puffy eyed and full of grogginess. "Are you planning on going to class?" Lee asks.

I nod my head in response. "How are you planning on getting your robes?" Fred asks, which makes the boys all laugh.

"I was hoping Ginny or 'Mione could help me." I blush.

"Hermione is only the room before yours, you know. You can't hide from Katie forever." Fred replies, mockingly.

"Mate, she almost pummeled her. Katie's going to have it out for you, Mira." George replies.

I sigh. "How am I supposed to live with her? She's a complete bitch; I mean, she always has been, but-"

"She's Angie's friend!" Fred cries out.

"C'mon, you know Katie's a total wench." Lee adds. I roll my eyes and decide to get up, muttering something even I can't distinguish under my breath.

I make my way up the stairs, on my way to Ron and Harry's room. I knock, but hear no response. I knock again, harder, and hear someone fumbling behind the door. "One second!" A nervous voice calls out to me. The door flies open and a tall, lanky boy with shifty eyes is abruptly in front of me.

"Hello. Neville, right? I need to speak to Harry or Ron." I say, with a smile.

The boy nervously smiles and nods, opening the door for me. I find Ron and Harry both asleep in their beds. I groan, knowing waking them would be even worse than waking the twins and Lee. I decide Harry will be easier than Ron, and try to wake him.

Luckily it only takes a few shakes until Harry sits upright in his bed, gasping at the sight of me in his room. "What're you doing here? Are you alright?" He asks me, pulling his blankets up to cover his chest.

"I need to ask you a favor. Can I please wear one of your robes? Only for today, I can't bear to see Katie." I beg. He nods, handing me the first robe in his dresser and then laying back into bed.

"Classes start in an hour," I try to warn him, but he has already fallen back asleep.

I make my way to the twins room and enter their bathroom to change my clothing. When I exit the bathroom, the boys giggle quietly. The robe is ill fitting, too long and drowning me; but it is better than if I had worn one of the twins' humongous robes.

"Yeah, laugh all you want." I say, exiting the room. The boys follow me and we make our way to the Great Hall for breakfast. There is a slight tension, but we choose to ignore it.

We eat together chattily, causing the meal to go much quicker than intended. The students around me begin to stand and walk off to their classes. George leans over and whispers in my ear, "We don't have to go. I'll skip with you, if you'd like."

"No, it's alright. We should go." I whisper back, standing and leading him away from the table. I trip a bit over the robes that pool around my feet, but George catches me. I quickly pull away from his touch, not allowing him to hold me for longer than a second. I pick up my pace a bit, racing to class with George at my side. When we reach the Divination door, I pause.

"All good?" George asks. I nod and reach for the door, opening it slowly. Adrian sits in the center of the room, staring towards the blackboard in front of him.

I quietly motion a goodbye to George and make my way towards Adrian. I sit next to him without a word, and he slowly turns to look at me.

"Hello, pretty girl." He tells me, revealing a red rose from under his arm. "I apologize for being a git."

I smile, taking the flower from him. My smile begins to falter as I take a deep breath. "You promised me it would never happen again." I whisper.

"Mira-" He tries, but I shake my head.

"Let me speak. I love you, Adrian. But I don't love the person you become when you treat me that way."

He nods slowly, not knowing what to say. "I love you, Mira. I will never treat you that way again, over my own dead body."

He leans in and pulls me into a hug, kissing my cheek and ruffling my hair. He sniffs the air before pulling away. "What?" I whisper to him.

"Who's robe is this?" He asks, lifting the sleeve lightly. "A boy's?"

My cheeks turn pink. "Harry's. I haven't been to my room at all, so he lent it to me.  I know it's too big."

He takes a deep breath before he speaks. "He uses a horrible cologne..." He trails off.

I look away, embarrassed. Professor Trelawney begins her lesson, and Adrian and I take notes quietly. His left hand rests on my thigh, and I do not push him away. When class ends, he takes my hand and leads me away from the Astronomy tower.

"I have to get to class," I tell him, but he places a hand on my cheek and smiles down at me.

"Let's skip. I've been horrendous to you, let me make it up to you. For real this time."

I nod, and he takes my hand and pulls me to the stairs to descend towards the main entrance of the castle. He pulls me all the way to the dungeons, and we enter his room. "How exactly are you planning on making this up to me?" I ask nervously.

"You'll see, my love."

"You know, I haven't forgiven you."

"You will. I'll make sure of it." He locks the door behind him, and leads me to his bed. On top of his covers there is a large box with a red ribbon tied around it in a bow.

"You can't just buy me things when you mess things up." I tell him, turning away from the box.

His face falls, and he looks to the ground. "I know. But please, open it. If I'm honest it's for the both of us."

He grabs my shoulder and turns me back around, so I face the box once more. Slowly, I grab one end of the ribbon and pull it open. I lift the lid of the box, finding a small folded piece of a deep purple lace. I lift it, and find it is a dainty piece of lingerie.

"You're kidding me." I tell him. Anger begins to bubble within me. "This is making it up to me?" I slam the garment on his bed.

"This isn't it. What I'm going to do to you while you wear this, is what will make it up to you." He answers, kissing my cheek and grabbing my hand to lead me to the bathroom.

What in Godric's name is wrong with him? Surely he was kidding; there's no way his thought process was this idiotic. My hands shake as he gives me the mess of lace; I close the door between us with a slam.
