I sit next to Fred; Lee sits in front of me and George is next to him. Fred's hand are playing with mine, trying to distract me. We don't speak of what just happened; I don't want to explain that Adrian had lost his temper.
George barely looks at my face; he instead stares at the ring on my finger. "What are we doing tonight? Are we going to that party?" He asks us as a group.
"Yeah, it won't be as good as ours, but it should still be fun. Who's hosting this year?" Fred asks.
"It's tradition for seventh years to host, but I can't be arsed to remember names." Lee answers.
This is normally where I would make a comment, but I can't find the words to say. I had completely forgotten about the welcome back party. I know Adrian won't be able to attend, but perhaps that was for the best. We had spent a lot of time together; this might be a good way for us to get some space.
I nod and the boys cheer up; a party always brought up the mood. Too soon, the train comes to a stop, and the boys and I make our way to the castle. I don't see Adrian on our way there, which makes my heart pound. Once my friends and I sit together on our common room couch, my bracelet begins to glow. I decide to ignore it.
I sit with the twins and Lee; we are soon joined by Hermione, Ron, and Harry. We speak about our holiday, and I try to be as minimal about mine as possible. My bracelet begins to glow again; I put it underneath my leg and continue to try to pretend like it wasn't.
"Are you ready for this party? I heard that Sarah has connections to people in Romania and they have harder liquor than anything we have here." Ginny says as she walks up to our group.
"You will not be attending!" Says George. "You're way too young. This party is fourth years and older, always has been."
"Speaking of Romania, Charlie-" Fred starts, looking at me.
"Ugh, you guys are so rude!" Ginny complains.
She groans and walks away, disheartened. At the same time, Fred pulls something out of his pocket slowly. "Check out what I've got. It's a new kind of cigarette, it tastes sweeter than a cauldron cake. It's effects are supposed to be better than the real thing too." He chuckles.
"Save those for later!" Hermione says, looking around for the Gryffindor prefects.
"You're no fun!" Fred complains, but he obliges. We head down to the Great Hall to get dinner soon after, and I keep my back to the Slytherin table.
When the desserts come out, I feel a tap on my shoulder. A first year Slytherin hands me a folded note and then runs back to the table he had come from. I smirk slightly at Adrian's antics and unfold the paper.
I understand that you're mad at me. I shouldn't have snapped at you, I'm sorry. Please, meet me on the seventh floor tonight?
I fold the paper back up and continue eating with my friends. Our meal is nice; we are comfortable. It is not like it was before the drama of this year, but it is almost there.
Not long after our meal, we make our way to Gryffindor tower jumping and buzzing with excitement. The girls and I run up the steps, eager to get ready. To my surprise, Angelina and Katie hook their arms in mine and walk with me to our room.
"How excited are you for tonight? Well, it's no Slytherin party... but I've heard that this one might even be as good as the Weasley's." Katie says as she curls her hair.
"As long as we end up drunk." I joke, searching my closet for something to wear. It feels strange to dress in normal clothes; I had almost gotten used to gowns and jewels.
