The girls and I step into the hall that leads to the entrance of the castle. I try to make myself small, not wanting to be seen by the groups of students who are crowded by McGonagall, shoving their permission slips in her face. I'm already getting stares, other Gryffindors around me gawking at how different I look.

Why had I asked the girls to do my hair? Why couldn't I just keep my hair in its frizzy natural state? I would've avoided all of this embarrassment. My thoughts are interrupted by a low whistle. I hadn't even noticed we were already with our small group of boys, and my cheeks burn to see them staring at me.

"Wow Mira, all of this for me?" Fred asks jokingly, pulling on a chunk of my hair.

"No, no, it's surely meant for me!" Lee laughs, swatting Fred's hand away from me.

George looks at me in my eyes, before quietly saying "You look very nice."

A whisper of a thank you escapes my lips. He looks away from me and starts cracking jokes with his brother about something unrelated. George always had something nice to say to me, even if he had to say it quietly.

"I'll be back; I still haven't given my permission slip to McGonagall" I say generally to the group, then turn and walk away from them quickly.

It takes me mere minutes to hand the piece of paper to the professor, but by the time I'm done and turn to head back to my friends, most of the people who had been in the hallway were gone. I take a step towards my group but am instantly pulled to the side.

"Hey, that hurt." I say, rubbing my wrist. He grabs my hand and brings my wrist to his lips, giving it a small kiss before gently letting me go.

"Sorry, pretty girl. I didn't mean it," He tucks a piece of hair behind my ear, "Don't you look lovely." I blush.

"I'll meet you at the Three Broomsticks in an hour?" I ask, my cheeks still red.

"I'll be there" He smiles, "but it seems your friends are wanting you back at the moment."

I turn and see Ron, Lee, Harry, and Fred staring at us, their mouths agape. The girls are giggling whilst George looks to the ground.

I turn to say goodbye to Adrian, then quickly make my way to Ginny and Hermione, avoiding the gaze of everyone else. "Alright then. Let's head out"

I lead the way out of the castle, hoping my friends are following behind me.

It takes only a few paces for Fred to catch up to me and pull my arm. He angrily accuses me, saying, "Right, so it seems we know the reason you got all pretty today." I shake his arm off of me.

"Fred, leave her alone" Ginny snaps, "She can have friends".

"Not Slytherin friends!" Lee chimes in, "And that didn't seem like just friends." He adds in a whisper only Fred and I can hear.

"Piss off, both of you!" I bite back. I grab Ron's hand, as he is the closest other than Fred, and say "We're going to Honeydukes! Feel free to join us when you're done being bloody idiots."

Ron, wide-eyed, nods and says "Yeah, you sods" before following me down the path to Hogsmeade. We walk a long ten paces, still holding hands.

"Hey, wait up" I hear behind me. The hand which is not holding Ron's is suddenly enveloped in a much larger, much warmer embrace. George pulls me to the side to talk to me. "Ron, go back and hold Hermione's hand or something" he snaps. Ron runs off, muttering obscenities under his breath.

My mind is racing; I haven't spoken to him directly in almost two weeks. "What are you-"

"If you resent me for kissing you, I understand-" He interrupts me.

"It's not that" I say, grasping his other hand.

"Then why have you been ignoring me?" He asks, the hurt clearly showing in his light brown eyes.

"I've told you why. I've been your friend too long. I can't lose you if something were to go wrong" I spit out. I hate that I say these words aloud.

"You would never lose me." He replies. I don't answer. "Why did you decide to look so nice today?" He asks, touching my cheek.

I pull away from him.

"Can't a girl just want to look pretty?" I lie. Guilt fills my chest as I decide to not mention where I'm meant to be in an hour's time.

"I think you look pretty everyday" he says, looking at the ground.

With a sigh, I start walking towards the village. I don't hear his footsteps behind me.

"Let me take you out," He calls out to me.

"Do you ever listen to me?" I roll my eyes at him. "I just told you-"

He runs up to me. He grasps my shoulders and shakes me. "I know what you said. Did you ever consider that I don't care? Or that deep down, you don't care either?" His words cut me.

I want George Weasley more than I've ever wanted anything. Looking at his beautiful, delicate face, I get a fluttery feeling in my stomach. But even now, as I look at my best friend, my mind can't help but wander.

Today I was meant to get butterbeer with a man that George hated. Why did a small part of me want to go out with Adrian so badly? I barely knew him; there was just something that pulled me to him. Something that no matter how hard I try, I cannot ignore.

"Say yes. Please?" George continues. If I were to deny him now, I could never forgive myself. I nod.

George jumps in the air, smiling. When he lands, he gives me a peck on the cheek.  "Brilliant," He says excitedly, "How's tomorrow? Three o'clock?"

My cheeks feel hot, but instead of answering him I whisper, "George you need to know something before I agree to anything else."

He looks at me worriedly, before pressing me to go on.

"I've got to meet with Adrian today. I've already promised; I don't want to go back on my word. And I know what you're thinking. It's not a date, I don't think, but I thought I'd tell you" I speak my words faster than I've ever spoken before.

He nods. "I figured. Remember what I said before? That night at the- I mean, I can't blame you for not knowing how you feel. It's my fault for waiting so long and never letting you know how I felt. But I'm going to make sure you know exactly how I feel for you, and I'm going to show you that I'm so much better for you than he could ever be."
