Four days have passed since the twin's birthday. Adrian's note weighs heavily in my book bag. I haven't had the heart to open it; George was right. I shouldn't want to communicate with Adrian at all. George was my boyfriend, and that was it.
I don't know if Adrian was trying to play a game of some sort, but if he was I didn't want to feed into it. He had told George it was about his mother, which is my only reservation about not opening it. What if something was wrong with her? She was a sweet lady, I want to know if she's alright.
But it's really not my place, is it? She was kind to me, while I dated her son for a while; that was true. But that was before I found out her son was capable of drugging girls. Before I found out he sniffed unicorn dust for fun. Before he had hurt me over and over.
My heart breaks a bit. Lee's voice releases me out of my thoughts. "Come on, lovely. We've got to go to Potions." He nudges my shoulder. I nod, standing so our group can begin to shuffle out of class.
We walk through the halls together; I hold George's hand as we walk, and he swings our arms wildly. I smile a bit, loving his silly nature. He was a lot more easy going now, to say it in the most general sense.
He smiles a lot more, makes more jokes than before. I think he's more secure in the relationship, as am I. There's a level of trust that was not there before. He had come face to face with Adrian twice, and had held himself back. I knew that took loads of effort, and it's something I have to commend him for. I look to him now, watching his shaggy hair bounce about as he walks.
"You're much too old to have this type of hair, love. Seventeen means you're an adult, you know." I joke, bringing a hand up to mess with the curls on the back of his head.
He laughs. "You think I should cut it? Have you seen Bill's hair lately? It reaches his shoulders."
"You're not Bill, are you? I just think cutting it would be a bit more... I don't know, mature?" I say, trying to convince him.
"I'll shave my head if you shave yours." George tells me.
"Who's shaving their head? Can I do it for you?" Fred asks.
"You and George. Lee, your hair is perfect. Don't you dare mess with it!" I laugh out loud.
The boys all chuckle, and they spend the rest of the walk to Potions arguing about who amongst them has the best hair. They decide on Lee, like I had told them.
We enter the chilly classroom, and I see all three of the boys tense. They hate it in here, they have since our first day of the class six years ago. I had somewhat become used to the cold air of the dungeons, and I didn't hate Professor Snape as much as the boys did.
Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that I was somewhat good at Potions, although it was definitely not my best subject either. We sit in our usual seats; since George and I started dating our order has become George, myself, Lee, and then Fred.
Professor Snape clears his throat at the front of the room, demanding our attention. Fred clears his throat equally as loudly, causing Snape to stare him down.
"Alright, class. Today we will be working on something... different. As is tradition for sixth years, you will be creating two potions. This is not an exam, although this may... make an appearance... on a future... examination." He says.
The way he talks gets on my nerves at times. The unnecessary pauses and monotone inflection of his voice make my skin crawl.
Snape continues to speak. "Please pull out your advanced potions textbooks. The two potions you will be creating today will be found in chapter twenty-six and twenty-eight, respectively. You will not make the potion found in chapter twenty-seven, do you understand? You will work in groups of four. You have the entire class period withholding the final fifteen minutes for my grading. You may start."
