Cedric walks up to me, blocking Adrian from my view.
"Hey, Cedric" I say, my cheeks turning pink as I adjust my bag on my shoulder.
"I've just started studying History of Magic, why don't you join me?" He smiles a million-dollar smile, his perfectly white teeth shining under the bright library light.
I debate his offer. George had thrown a fit when Cedric had only introduced himself to me, what would he think of this? But George wasn't here, and he didn't control my every move. I'm allowed to have friends. I agree to sit with Cedric, pulling out my textbook as we chat.
He sits next to me; he's a perfectly respectful distance away. Behind me, I can hear a loud rustling and turn just in time to see Adrian leaving the library quickly. I sigh but begin to study with Cedric. We manage to cover lots of material before the conversation begins to shift.
"Did you enjoy the game yesterday? Horrid for us but great for you, wasn't it?" He says lightly.
"Yeah it was alright." I answer, not wanting to deviate from our textbook.
"You used to play, didn't you?" He asks, his voice steady and calm.
"Yeah, this is my first year not on the team." I frown.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to upset you." He says quickly, touching my shoulder.
I shrug him off casually, telling him it was alright. "I just miss it a lot." I whisper. I turn my head back to the book, asking him a question I already know the answer to.
We resume studying quietly. Before I know it, hours pass. Cedric has to go, reaching for my hand as he stands. He leans and kisses the back of my hand, then walks away swiftly. I shake my head and go back to reading, trying to cram as much information into my skull as possible.
I feel my eyelids growing heavy, but I try to keep studying. The words blur together; I can feel my cheek connecting with the pages.
I wake to a loud slam. My eyes shoot open, and I see George leaning over me, his face full of fear. He holds a stack of my books, looking to the floor. I glance and see he had dropped one.
"Sorry, I-I didn't mean to wake you." He stutters, afraid I would be upset.
"It's alright, I didn't know I had fallen asleep." I sit up, but the page I had been resting my head on sticks to my cheek and rips from the binding. George and I burst into laughter, and he peels the page off of my face and repairs it with a wave of his wand. He grabs my face and looks intently at my cheek.
"It seems the Tale of the Three Brothers was written in the-" He stops when I slap his hand away lightheartedly. He puts my things away for me as I yawn, ruffling my hair when he is done. He puts my bag over his shoulder and grabs my hand, leading me to the Great Hall.
"How'd you know I was in the library?" I question.
"Intuition." He smiles. We reach the dining room holding hands. I can't help but glance at the Slytherin table, catching the stare of Adrian. I quickly avert my gaze, squeezing George's hand tighter. We sit together with our friends, enjoying dinner. He puts his hand on my thigh, resting it throughout the meal. Just as dessert starts, he leans to whisper in my ear, "You know I haven't forgotten that stunt you pulled before practice."
His hand slips higher up my thigh, making me gasp. I don't speak, my reddening cheeks answering for me. He continues to eat as if he hadn't said anything, but my appetite is gone. My body feels electric, both nervous and excited for what was to come with George. It feels like eternity passes before we go up the steps with our group.
