For a second, Adrian's hand wavers. He quickly recovers, raising his wand once more.

"What are you doing?" I yell, breaking the haunting silence that had settled upon the room.

"I was waiting outside, hoping to catch you. That one-" he nods his head over to Lee, "found me and drug me in here. I swear I only cast expelliarmus to get him off of me."

I look around the room, begging to find the truth in someone's expression. Everyone is stunned, not looking into my eyes.

"Well? Is that true?" I call out, my cheeks red from both embarrassment and nerves.

"He was waiting outside, and Lee did drag him in..." Katie Bell squeaks in.

I nod my head, taking a hesitant step farther into the common room.

"Wands down, everyone" I say quietly, afraid of creating a larger commotion. "I'll talk to you, Adrian, just not here."

"Mira-" Fred and George protest at the same time.

"It's fine." I shake as I take another step close to Adrian. "If I'm not back in five minutes, come looking for me, alright?" I whisper to the twins before I commit to walking directly towards Adrian. I push past him, walking outside of the portrait hole and into the hall.

It takes a moment for him to join me, but when I hear his footsteps behind me I keep walking. He follows me silently. I enter a hall just to the left of the grand staircase, finally turning to be face to face with him. "What are you doing?" I ask quietly.

"I hate the way things ended-"

"Keyword being ended?" I remind him.

"I'm sorry. I'm a horrible person, I know it." He looks to the ground. "I heard about what happened in the Great Hall." He takes a step closer to me.

"That was stupid-"

"It was my fault. I've already told everyone I lied. I told them to leave you alone."

"It's a little too late for that, isn't it?" I am beginning to get angry, but not at him; I am angry at myself. He had hurt me over and over, yet here I was still standing with him, wanting him to reach out and hold me.

"Forgive me, please"

I hesitate before I whisper, "I can't."

"You want to."

"But I can't." I turn to walk away from him, but he grasps my wrist. It's the same wrist he had clung to earlier, which makes me wince. "Let go of me, would you?" I say, a bit louder than I had been before.

"Mira?" A voice calls out to me. George appears from down the corridor, his eyes wide. He takes a step closer, his eyes falling on Adrian's grip on me. I can see the cogs turning in his mind, putting the pieces together. Fred appears next to him, his eyes wide.

I pull myself away from Adrian quickly, taking a step back.

"George, it's fine-"

"Is he the reason you're bruised?" He says darkly.

I feverishly shake my head, denying it to protect Adrian.

"Bruised?" Adrian asks, full of confusion.

"Don't lie!" Fred calls out, rushing towards us. He grabs me by the arm, examining at the finger-shaped mark. "Back away, Mira."

"It was an accident," I say, pushing against Fred's chest. He doesn't look at me, looking above my head, at Adrian. George puts his hand on Fred's shoulder, attempting to calm him. I can see the anger in George's face. He is torn, wanting to attack Adrian but keeping himself from acting upon it, knowing it would hurt me.
