On the fifth floor, I hear someone call out my name. I turn and see Cedric, carrying a pile of books in his hands.

I wipe my eyes before speaking to him. "Hey Ced, sorry we haven't hung out much lately. I've just been super busy." I say, sniffing lightly.

"I don't care about that, why are you crying? Has something happened?" He says, glancing at my sling.

I shake my head and try to smile, but the tears in my eyes give me away. He walks up to me and hugs me gently, patting my head. "I'm guessing you fell of a broom?" He asks, trying to make me laugh.

"Fell down a flight of stairs, even more mundane." I answer, chuckling lightly into his sweater vest.

"Is it hurting? Pomfrey should have given you something for pain-"

"No, it doesn't hurt too bad." I answer, pulling away.

"Then why is a pretty girl like you crying?" He asks, his eyes full of worry.

"Something's happened with Adrian, erm, it doesn't matter really. I don't know what's going to come out of it." I say, my voice a thick whisper.

"Has he hurt you? Did you really fall down the stairs?" He asks, his voice grave.

"Godric, no! I mean yes, I fell; Julia saw me. But no, he wouldn't touch me." I say quickly. To change the subject, I look up into his eyes. "How's Cho?" I ask, nerves eating at me inside.

"We've taken a break, she needs to study and doesn't think she can do that while dating me. Stings a bit." He says, his face losing his signature smile for a second.

I nod slowly. "Sorry to hear that, Ced. You two are great together."

"How about I get you a drink? Or something to eat? Maybe it'll calm you down." He suggests, taking my good hand and walking with me down the steps.

I sniffle lightly, blinking back tears. "You've always been a good friend, Cedric. Thank you." I tell him.

"I only befriended you so you could tutor me, I won't lie." He chuckles.

I laugh lightly, walking with him as he swings my arm back and forth. We walk to the kitchens, and he rubs my back as we eat a slice of banana bread. "Thanks for this. We need to hang out more often, I feel like I hardly see you." I sniffle.

"Well you're always busy, aren't you?" He asks, taking the last bite.

"But you're my friend. I should make the time." I answer, setting the plate down.

"You know, I used to have a crush on you, in year five. Massive, it was. But Pucey got to you first." He chuckles.

"Merlin's beard, you're joking." I laugh, throwing my napkin at him.

He catches it and sets it down on the counter. "I'm not. If you weren't dating him, I would've been all over you." His intense gaze burns holes into me.

I blush and look away. Well, he was single at the moment, and I had just found Adrian with another girl. But I can't. I love Adrian; I can't do anything until I find out if there was anything in that cup of coffee.

"Crazy how things turn out, then, isn't it?" I whisper, smiling at him lightly and taking a step away from him.

"Yeah, crazy. At least now we're friends... and you've helped me ace the last three tests we've had." He smiles, nodding his head to the door.

We walk together quietly for a bit, and I excuse myself at the stairs. He waves, leaving me to walk to the potions classroom by myself. I open the door and hear Julia complaining, "I told you I need you to double check."
