"Hello Cedric." I smile politely but remove his arm from around me.

"You weren't in class yesterday, are you alright?" He furrows his brows as he begins to walk with me.

"Just fine, only had a bit of a headache." I lie. He nods as we continue to walk together in silence.

"You're dating a Weasley, right? Good blokes those twins are. Talented at quidditch as well." He is so mannerly, his aura serious and kind.

"Erm, no. I'm actually seeing Adrian Pucey." I flush as I tell him, embarrassed for having to correct him. "Why do you ask?" I say, a slight edge in my voice.

"I think we could be good friends, you and I. I just didn't know who I needed permission from." He smiles a charming smile.

"You don't need permission from anyone but me." I say lightheartedly. Although I say it lightly, I mean it.

"Right you are." He chuckles as we reach the large wooden door to our classroom, which he opens for me. I see Fred and Lee sat together, but find George is still nowhere to be seen. "Cedric, do you want to sit with me today?" I ask impulsively.

"Sure!" He says excitedly.

He is the definition of respectful, sitting next to me but leaving enough space between us to be comfortable. He tries to joke with me, which makes me chuckle at his attempt rather than the joke. The class period passes by quickly, and I say a hurried goodbye. He waves and walks off to his next class.

"I much prefer Diggory over Pucey, what do you think mate?" Fred asks, looping his arm on mine.

Lee reaches out and tickles me as he says, "Oh a much better choice for our dear Mira."

I swat them both away, telling them Cedric was just a friend. They roll their eyes and walk with me to Potions. I can't help but notice a mischievous glint in their eyes. The lackluster day carries on; I don't see Adrian until lunch. Even then it is from across the Great Hall, where he sits with his friends and I sit with mine.

"Can you believe Slytherin has got to play Ravenclaw for the last match of the entire season? What a waste of a day! Slytherin is sure to win." Harry complains.

"Ravenclaw hasn't beat Slytherin in the last five years!" Ginny chimes in, her cheeks turning red the second the words escape her lips.

"And it's the last Saturday we'll have here. Next week's is Hogsmeade and after that is when we go back home for Christmas." Fred says, exasperated.

Did we really only have two weekends until we went home? I still didn't have a clue if my parents were coming home or not; if they weren't, this would be my first Christmas stuck at the castle.

Suddenly, my appetite is gone. I excuse myself from the table, heading to the entrance to wallow in peace. I walk down the hall, wanting to send a letter to my mum from the owlery.

"Mira?" I turn to see Adrian running after me.

"Hi Adrian." I call out. He reaches me and wraps his arm around my waist.

"You seemed upset. Are your friends not being nice to you?" He asks, apprehension clear in his voice.

"No, no, I just need to send a letter to my mother." I reply.

"What about? Me and how remarkable I am?" He smiles.

I take a deep breath; my cheeks burn as I decide to tell him the truth. "Erm, no... I don't know if they'll be coming home for Christmas; they're abroad. I just want to know if I'll be staying at the castle."
