I sit in my sink, applying a glitter to my eyelids. I can hear Katie's shrill voice as she complains about her hair, but I try to drown it out. I finish my makeup and stare at myself in the mirror. Good enough. I exit the bathroom and walk to my bed, Katie still griping.
"You're fine. You look great, I swear it." Angelina soothes her, patting her back. I glance at the clock, seeing I have thirty minutes to meet with Jacob. I throw my dress on; it's a deep purple silk and slides on me easily. Adrian's mom had given it to me, but he had it tailored to fit me perfectly. With a wave of my wand the back ties itself shut, and I can feel the fabric tighten around my waist.
I slide my heels on and the billowing silky fabric of my dress grazes the ground. I look to my nightstand. I had laid out most of my jewelry; I couldn't decide on what to wear. I slide Adrian's ring back on, on my left hand. I decide to wear his bracelet as well.
I stare at the necklace George had gifted me. It was beautiful, but I debate the ethics of wearing it. I had hardly spoken to George since my birthday. Ever since the incident with him writing to Charlie, the very thought of him made me nauseous. I drag the necklace and place it inside my desk, deciding on a small diamond pendant my parents had gifted me for Christmas.
I grab a small purse and throw the essentials in, and when I zip it closed I notice the room has gone silent. I turn and see that Katie was gone, and Angelina sits at her desk painting her nails.
"Where has Katie gone? Is she alright?" I ask.
"She's fine, she's just gone to vomit downstairs. Told her she couldn't do it in here. I don't know why she stresses herself so much." Angelina answers.
Katie had thrown up twice today from nerves. Why was the ball making her so afraid? She had found a date, settling for a blonde boy a year younger than us.
His name was Cormac, a name which everyone knew. I thought I had never spoken to him before, but Katie gushing about him made me realize exactly who he was. He was the prick that wanted to take me to his room during the last Gryffindor party. If Katie knew, I'm sure she'd have a conniption.
"I'm glad she's alright. I'll be going. I'll see you there." I smile at Angie and walk out.
I walk down the stairs quietly, finding Ron and his friends sat on the couch. They all grumble, since the party was only for older students. "Well hello!" Ron says when he sees me, his cheeks pink.
"Oh, you look gorgeous!" Hermione tells me, running up to hug me.
"You're the sweetest, Hermione!" I reply, wrapping my arms around her shoulders.
"Erm, you look wonderful Mira." Harry tells me awkwardly.
I nod a thank you, and feel myself get pulled back. Fred has his hands on my waist, pulling me to his side. Lee hands Hermione a small camera, and the boys pull me to stand with them.
Fred whistles. "Well look at you!" He chuckles.
"I had forgotten you're a real girl!" Lee jokes.
"Shove off." I tell them, trying to not smile.
We make funny faces at the camera; I stick my tongue out and place my hands like antlers on my head. After a few different poses, Hermione complains. "Come on, a good one now!" She chides us.
I straighten up, standing between Lee and Fred; George is on the other side of Lee. We wrap our arms around each other, and I smile brightly. The camera flashes once more, and I pull away.
"I've got to go." I tell them, hugging each of them for only a second.
"You look incredible." George tells me, his voice low.
