Chapter 2: My New Mission

"Welcome home Dear", said Carol as she poured tea for the three of us.

"Hello Ma, how have you guys been doing?", I replied.

"We've been doing alright, how was your last fight at the arena?", she asked.

I hesitated for a bit before I answered, "It wasn't the greatest to be completely honest, I just wanted to come home as soon as possible".

"Oh well, I understand anyways. Come sit with me and your Papa, it's time to let you know what we discovered about Max".

I sat down at the table with a cup of tea in my hand. I was getting more and more nervous after each second. I was afraid that something had happened to her.

"We did some digging on the hunter website and found out that she's somehow associated with the Phantom Troupe", River explained.

I was so shocked. Why was a 3-year-old associated with a group of Rank-A criminals? He proceeded to show the only available picture of her on the website. The toddler had (h/c) colored hair. However, I knew she had to be Maxine because of her iconic platinum eyes. She's the only person I knew with eyes like those.

"It's definitely her", I said.

I wanted to cry. I wanted to cry so bad. I wished I never gave her up and now she's in the hands of the Phantom Troupe. Why?

Before I could say or do anything, River said, "We came up with a way you could get in contact with the Spiders. There's a big auction happening in Yorknew City within the Mafia Community, which will take place on September 1st. They are a group of thieves after all, it's certain they'll be there. If you apply for a mafia related job, you'll most likely encounter them. I would recommend you apply for the Nostrades. They're looking for new bodyguards. In fact, I actually used to work with the head of the group myself. His name is Light Nostrade".

"Alright then. I'll apply for that job, since you recommended it", I replied.

"Great! However you will need to choose an ability before you start your work. You've already mastered the basics, so developing and practicing your ability shouldn't take too long. You're an incredibly fast learner (Y/N), I know you'll be ready by then".

He gave me smile and both of them got out of their chair to hug me. I really needed it. I was so grateful I had them. The moment was then interrupted when I got a phone call. It was from Gon.

"Hey (Y/N)!, are you home yet?".

"Yeah I'm home now. How are you and Killua? Did you have any fights today?".

"No, not today. We continued our nen training with Master Wing and Zushi".

"Ah, okay. I actually have a question about meeting each other in Yorknew City. Are you guys meeting up there because of the auction?".

"Yeah actually, our friend Kurapika has some business with the Phantom Troupe. We believed that the spiders will be there to steal the merchandise, which will give him the chance to find them".

"I believe so too. I have some business with them as well".

"Oh really? Well I'll try to contact Kurapika, maybe you two can work together! I mean, we're going too to help him out anyways, but the more the merrier!".

"That's sound great. I'd like to work with others, especially if they're friends of yours".

"Awesome! If I can get a hold of him, I'll let you know. Otherwise I'll see you September 1st!".

"Will do. Thanks Gon. Tell Kil I said hi".

"Of course (Y/N), take care!"

"You too".
