"Around midnight last night, there were hundreds of witnesses watching the Nutlocke Manor burn as the fireworks went off at the anniversary carnival".
"Local police, firefighters and detectives suspect that the state of the house was the result of arson".
"And not only that, but everyone who was trapped inside the building had all unfortunately, passed away. Including the famous owner of the company, James Nutlocke as well".
"All have the corpses' identities have been discovered recently. However, a disembodied forearm was discovered within the debris, which hasn't been identified yet".
"And with James' recent passing, his will has left his family's company of the hand's of his wife, Naomi. She was last seen at the toy store within the property, performing a puppet show. And as of now, no one is aware of her current whereabouts. But detectives believe that it's was very likely she died in the fire as well".
"The disembodied arm is currently undergoing through a forensic analysis. The authorities will proceed in action depending on the results..."
~ 9:40 am, Kurapika's POV ~
Last night, (Y/N) had completely passed out in the car shortly after we left. Thankfully, she seems to be breathing fine, despite the amount of smoke we were exposed to last night.
Because of the late hour, Leorio and I agreed to rest at his hotel room for the night. We had just woke up, and turned on the news to check on the status of mansion. Specifically, the status of Naomi. It was quite clear that everyone inside has passed. But a disembodied arm? I don't recall running into that.
(Y/N) was still asleep, and Leorio keeps checking on her to keep an eye on her health. The smoke in my lungs was causing me to cough from time to time, and I had a slight headache.
"Anything about her?", Leorio asked walking out of the room (Y/N) was asleep in.
"Her body was never found, but there was someone's disembodied forearm within the debris", I replied.
"Do you think it's Naomi's?", he questioned with a look of concern.
"We can't assume the worst unless it's confirmed. We just have to wait--", I replied with a slight cough.
"Are you still hanging in there?", Leorio asked.
"I can assure you I'm fine. I just need to let it out of my system", I replied with another slight cough.
Breaking News:
"The disembodied arm has just been identified. Belonging to Naomi Nutlocke, the wife of James Nutlocke".
"Investigators unfortunately suspect that she had most likely passed along with everyone else. They believe that after her arm was dismembered, she had either burned to ash in building, or she bleed to death, with her body is still undiscovered".
"Since her body was never found yet, they are thoroughly checking through the debris one last time for her body. If she isn't found, they will wait five days before they officially declare her dead...".
~ 3rd Person POV ~
Kurapika could feel the guilt building up even more. At the brink of death, his only instinct was to rescue (Y/N). He regretted allowing her to help. This mission was never something he would have imagined.
As much as he didn't want to believe it, he knew that there was less than a 5% chance of Naomi's survival. He didn't want to be the one to break the news. He didn't have the heart to tell her.
He never learned who set the mansion on fire. He knew there were bombs implanted, but he was never able to figure who was responsible for doing so.
It was around 10:15 am, and he decided to check on his girlfriend himself. She was awake and sitting on the bed, leaning against the headboard while looking at her phone.
"Hey Love, are you feeling any better?", he asked her.
She only gave him a small nod as a response to indicate she was. She continued to stare at her phone, waiting for a response from Naomi.
"What are you doing?", he asked in a soft voice as he walked towards the bed.
"Just checking if Naomi is alright.. Did you hear anything about last night in the media or something?", she asked as she set her phone aside from her.
He looked away from her for a second, then took a deep sigh and sat down on the bed. They were both now sitting on the bed with their legs in a criss-crossed style.
"So, from what Leorio and I heard this morning, everyone who was inside the mansion had passed. Even with that said, we still don't know if that includes Naomi", he explained in a sad tone as he held her hands in his.
"What happened..?".
"Investigators found a disembodied forearm in the remains of the house. It was recently identified to belong to Naomi. They never found the rest of her body, so they're going to wait five days before officially declaring her..".
Her heart sank when he broke the news. She wanted her to be alright, but she was aware how low the chances were. A sudden wave of deja vu had hit her. She had told herself that she had failed to save a loved one once again. First Maxine, and now Naomi.
Naomi was like the older sister she never had. The older sister that she wished she had years ago. The figure she never knew how bad she had yearned for.
Kurapika had felt even more sick to his stomach. Despite this, he never let go of her hands. He had only held them tighter. He had glanced over at her, and noticed her head was looking down.
"..(Y/N)?".
"If only if I had found her sooner", she replied with a slight crack in her voice.
Kurapika felt a teardrop fall onto his hand, and begun to feel her shake. This time, he was the one who pulled her into a warm embrace.
"I'm so sorry Love..".
