Chapter 13: Ending and Aftermath

We went inside an off-duty airship to meet with her. Kurapika still had the leader chained up while I stood beside Melody.

"To verify, are you Pakunoda of the Phantom Troupe?", asked Kurapika.

"Yes I am", Pakunoda responded.

Both Kurapika and I look over to Melody to confirm.

"She's telling the truth", Melody said.

"Let's begin. I will present each of you with two conditions. If you choose to abide by them, I will release your leader", Kurapika explains as he takes out his Judgment Chain. "I'll start with conditions for the leader. First, I hearby forbid all further use of nen. Second..", he then stops and hesitates for a second. He's shaking. He's trapped in his thoughts right before he can do anything.

Our mission originally, was to eliminate Pakunoda because her ability was a huge threat against us. However, once both Gon and Killua were taken back hostage, we had to capture the leader. It was the only way we could've kept them out of harm's way. Even though what Melody said back in the car was true, our top priority is to get our friends back. They obviously won't let Maxine die, so they have to protect her.

"Second, I forbid all contact with other Troupe members from now on. Those are my conditions. And to make certain you adhere to them, I will stab your leader with my Judgment Chain: Arbiter Little Finger. It's up to you now Pakunoda. Are these conditions acceptable?", Kurapika said.

The room went silent before she responded, "Yes, I accept".

Kurapika then stabs the leader using his Judgment Chain.

"You're next Pakunoda. Before I give you your conditions, you must answer my question. What is Maxine's ability? What is your relationship with her and what do you plan to do with her?".

I was surprised he asked that. We were really doing this now?

"Little Max? How do you know about her?", Pakunoda asked.

"Answer", I said.

"I guess you could say I'm her mother, but I never gave birth her. The only information I know about her birth mother was that she was young and homeless when she gave her up. She cared for her for about a year before she did, and I'm surprised she was able to survive doing so. Isn't that right (Y/N)?".

I was shocked for a moment but if she knows me, it's because she went through her memories. "Yeah, yeah it is. Now what ability does she possess?".

"Maxine was born with some type of ability to summon ghosts or demons to whoever she touches with all five of her fingers. I'm not exactly sure what she summons because her memories were a bit blurry. Basically, anyone the kid touched, died not long after. Her ability is still heavily unknown. There was an incident in one of her previous foster homes, which caused those people to dump her in Meteor City. That's when I read her memory and took her into the Troupe. We're still learning about her ability, and it's obvious no one wanted her because she was born cursed. The Troupe decided to care for her, and learn about this ability. And once we teach her nen, we can form her into a new member".

"What?! She was a normal baby! There was nothing wrong with her!", I shouted as I looked over to Melody. "This can't be true..".

"She's telling the truth.. (Y/N)...", said Melody.

"I'm telling the truth, if I wasn't, your blonde friend would have killed me right now. Her eyes even glow too, did you know about that?", asked Pakunoda.

"Now that you mentioned it, they did that one time..", I mumbled. Then I just froze. I still couldn't believe all this.

"Ok now, since that's all cleared up. I'll state your conditions. First off, release Gon and Killua, uninjured, before midnight, and without any deceptions. Second, you are also forbidden to reveal anything about me or (Y/N). Accept, and I'll stab you with the chain as well".
