Chapter 40: Alone Together • ♡ Valentine's Day ♡

Two weeks ago, on January 31st, Naomi Nutlocke was officially declared dead and investigators had concluded she burned to ash. (Y/N) had already assumed the worst, but continued to hang on, for she still had a lot more left to do with her life. Her and Kurapika returned to their regular bodyguard work on Monday, the 28th.

The next two weeks were your average/slow days for those who worked for the Nostrades. Light hadn't summoned Kurapika as often as he did then, so he had more time off for himself. With that time, he stayed with (Y/N) as much as he could. She's been quiet, and Melody and the other associates noticed this as well.

Both Kurapika and (Y/N) decided to keep the events between them. Even though he knew she wasn't the most talkative at the time, he always made the effort to make her day better.

~ February 13th, 9:45 pm ~

"May I come in?", Kurapika asked on the other side of (Y/N)'s door after he knocked.

"Yeah, it's unlocked", he heard from the other side in a muffled volume.

Kurapika entered her room and noticed her laying in bed.

"I'm sorry, were you trying to fall asleep?", he asked as he walked closer to her.

"It wasn't working for me anyways. Did you need something?", she asked as she sat up.

"I just wanted to talk to you for a bit, I won't take long. Is that alright?", he asked.

"Mhm, sit down", she replied with a nod as she moved over to the side of the bed.

Kurapika did the following she requested and sat besides her in bed.

"So, what's up?", she asked.

"Do you know what tomorrow is?", he asked.

"Um.. Thursday..?", she replied with confusion.

"Well yes, but what's tomorrow's date?", he repiled with a soft chuckle.

"The 14th?", she replied.

"Mhm", he replied.

"I thought your birthday was in April--".

"It is! Don't worry about that", he replied with a slight laugh.

"Then what's tomorrow--", she replied before her eyes widened with realization.

"You got it?".

"Valentine's day".

"Exactly", he replied with a warm smile. "I got us the day off, which means I got something special planned for us", he explained as he held on to her hand.

"Really? And what may that be?", she replied.

"That's a surprise. Will noon work for you?", he asked.

"That's fine with me", she replied.

"Wonderful", he replied with a warm smile. "Goodnight Darling", he stated after kissing his lover on the cheek.

Right when he was about to let go of her hand, she held his tighter.

"What's wrong?", he asked.
