Chapter 36 - Suspicious

"Uh Dr. Vien were you perhaps-"

"No!" Vien interrupted "I fell asleep the moment we arrived from town, so there was no chance it was me!"

Jean rested his head on his arms, and grinned at her mischievously

"Why so startled doctor? No one even asked you a question yet"

A glare was shot towards the group of giggling cadets, Vien knew that Connie would've sang out loud if only the Captain wasn't with them

Levi spared a short glance at her tensed expression. The cup he brought to his lips covered the faint smile that slowly formed.

"Oh I remember! When the lot of you came back from town, Dr. Vien was in a drowsy mood when she entered her room. She also looked like she was about to fall asleep any moment" Hanji snapped loudly

The cadets' suspicions seemed to fade when their bodies stopped facing Vien. The doctor sighed in relief and drank a glass of water

But Hanji wasn't finished yet, she continued "Although I knew that, I still thought it was Vien. The figure and clothes really resembled hers"

Vien widened her eyes and froze at the spot. Just when she was about to defend herself, Hanji let out a laugh. She stared at her confusedly

"But I'm 100% sure that was wasn't Dr. Vien, I mean can you even imagine her falling for someone? After all, she's a 24/7 workaholic"

"Am I right Levi?" She nudged him

Levi bluntly replied "Of course, I pile Dr. Vien with papers all the time so she's always busy working"

That was a relief Vien sighed

"Unless if the boy was Dr. Aaron, then it must've been Vien, am I right?" Hanji gleamed excitedly as she averted to Vien for an answer

Vien gave a side eye at Levi, and although his eyes were glued on the table, he was clearly listening

"Hanji!" Vien's eyes widen after being startled. She jolted when her wrist was held so suddenly, but Vien noticed her expression and dropped her hand immediately

She chuckled awkwardly, "Me and Aaron aren't what you're thinking"

"Oh," Hanji frowned "You must've felt uncomfortable about what I said, I apologize for being abrupt"

"No hard feelings" Vien smiled

The atmosphere completely went back to normal. Hanji was talking about her experiments, the cadets were either dozing off or listening

Levi stood to leave after drinking his tea, and left the hall without a word. Since she wanted to talk with Levi, she excused herself to the bathroom and caught up to him

He was walking in a slow pace, so she quickly found him. Vien walked beside him, and forced herself to ask "Are you busy now?"

"Checking up on Erwin, you should finish eating" Levi casually replied

A subtle gasp escaped. Although Vien didn't want it to happen, she thought that he'd start questioning her about what Hanji said. But it looked like his mood didn't change

"Oh, I wanted to talk to you" Vien muttered "I thought you'd be mad after Hanji said all those nonsense"

A chuckle was heard from him, so her brows raised in response. Levi stopped walking and faced to Vien

"Tch, you thought I was jealous?"

She was embarrassed "Well, that's a strong word. I just thought that-"

"I admit that I envied the attention you always gave him, which is why I don't really like him. But it's already her fault if she doesn't have a clue about us" Levi smirked

"Yeah, I don't feel like telling them yet" She laughed under her breath

"As long as you're comfortable, I haven't got any problem with that"

He planted a kiss on her forehead, before pulling away. Vien bid Levi a goodbye and they parted ways

She watched Levi's figure that was gradually shrinking as he walked away. When it finally disappeared, she went back to her room to pack up her stuff. It was a few hours till they'd all finally head back to headquarters. They lost so much people whilst staying here, but the Survey Corps' determination to continue the battle still remained
