"My my, what is a little
midget like you doing in
these grounds?"
---
"She's on it again" Sighed the boy
They all avert their eyes outside the window, gazing in awe at the soldier who was on the training grounds for seven hours straight
"Come on, she's done this for years how are you all not used to it yet?"
"Who's that?" Asked a new cadet who crept up to them. The question caused the other kids to roll their eyes - a chorus of seriously's came
"Have you been sleeping under a rock?" Scoffed a young, petite and brown-haired girl "That's our unit's Lieutenant Colonel you blockhead"
"But I don't seem to recall seeing her before" He defended himself
The girl averted her eyes far from the man, gazing frontwards in awe
"It's because she just came from a mission outdoors. She's amazing"
Her friend laughed at her "Said the very person who called her a devil"
The girl glared "It's cause I thought she was. Don't you recall what she told us when she first came here?"
"Anyways," She spoke "Everyone also had the same view towards her back then because of her background. But she proved herself to our country for years now, and she's brought us so many victories since she came. It's why she's trusted by our military now"
The boy gaped "Wait, was she the same Sergeant Major who led and claimed victory from that three year war? I heard it last month"
"Imagine being the person putting an end to a war that long despite being a low ranked officer" She shook her head, pleasured by the thought of it "It's why she's been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel last month. If I can ask my cousin, I'm sure I could get to talk to her"
"It took that woman less than a decade to get promoted to that position? That must mean she really got the trust of Commander"
A scoff was heard from her again
"It's the same thing I told you a few seconds ago, moron" She rolled her eyes, but something nearby immediately took her attention
A tall soldier entered the grounds, carrying a scroll in hand. Directly recognizing him, it was same face she always waited for to show up. She didn't spare a second, getting up from her chair to run into him
"What's with her?" He questioned
One of her friends chuckled as he watched the kid running in a brisk manner "It's the messenger of Lieutenant Colonel. That girl always tries to convince him to deliver them herself, all because she wants to speak to that lady"
The petite girl halted in front of the soldier to block her path. Once he realized it was the same girl who'd bug him everyday, he rolled his eyes once again "Quit it midget"
"Please just this once?" The girl resorted into using puppy eyes even if it grazed her little pride
"Urgh fine! But-" The soldier raised the parchment above him "Make sure to deliver this properly. She absolutely hates making mistakes"
The scroll was snatched from his hands the very moment he extended it to her. When she finally got to hold it, a huge smile appeared on her face "You can entrust me on the job Mr. Fischer!"
Before even listening to his reply, she sped off and entered the training area. She passed by rows and rows of training soldiers before arriving behind a person
A commissioned officer that stood out from the rest. Not because she was standing in front of the army, but because of the aura she exuded. The Lieutenant Colonel was small but healthy in shape, it's why people assume her to be of bubbly personality. But only those who never stayed in her presence thought that way - because everyone in the military knew it was the complete opposite of her
The lady was a huge perfectionist in every thing she did. It was why their Commander entrusted her in training new recruits, and why she was probably the only instructor who many novices dreaded to face
She was ruthless and inhumane when it came to training - much much worse when she entered war. Her belligerent personality along with her outlandish abilities sky rocketed their victory rates, that the girl became one of their country's most important warriors
But undoubtedly, this cold blooded reputation of hers doesn't scare this young girl. Not even a little bit
"Mr. Fischer, you're fifteen and a half seconds late. Care to explain?"
She finally talked to me, she did. An excited grin beamed on her face, accompanied with her tingling toes
"He was unable to attend to his duty today Lieutenant Colonel"
The woman turned around, eyes falling upon a petite girl with glistening eyes. Her only response to it was to raise an eyebrow at her
"My my, what is a little midget like you doing in these busy grounds?"
Extending the scroll to her with both arms, she loudly stated "A message from the Commander!"
The Lieutenant Colonel simply took the piece of parchment, shooting a simper smile at her before stating
"Leave"
After bluntly dismissing the girl, she turned around and continued facing the crowd of trainees. However, the young girl refused to
"Lieutenant, I was wondering if I could learn your name?" She hesitantly asked "Everyone calls you by the title so I never got to know what your real name was"
Her personal question startled the man beside her. The assistant that stood beside her turned his head around, harshly glaring at the young girl. He was mouthing her silently to shoo off, like he was scared for the result of her actions
It didn't bother the kid, as she kept her sole attention on the instructor
"What did you just say?" She asked
Her assistant gulped as soon as she said to repeat her question, that he blurted out "I-I'm sorry Lieutenant Colonel... I'll escort her out myself!"
"I asked you what your name was, Lieutenant" She confidently spoke
About to escort her away, her assistant was gestured to stop when the instructor rose her hand. His grip on the young girl's shoulder loosened as he let her go
The Lieutenant Colonel slightly looked over her shoulder, replying
"Klein. My name is Dahlia Klein"
