Chapter 7 - Preparations

The whole week before the trip went like this, she became closer with Levi's squad and the other medics, she spent a lot of time training, and things became less awkward between her and Levi. Since they were now used to each other's presence for hours without talking, seeing each other everyday made things more comfortable for them. There were times where they'd bicker at each other, but it didn't lead to anything serious other than Levi calling her a brat

It was Saturday, the day before the expedition. Hanji walked beside Vien as they were called into a huge space by the Commander

"Hi Hanji, why did Erwin call so many of us?" Vien asked as they arrived, there were several groups of soldiers on the wide ground

She laughed, "Erwin's going to give commands. We're going to see the titans after 3 months! I'm so excited to meet one, aren't you?"

"Of course" Vien smiled, she knew no one else would agree like Hanji wanted them to, so she wanted to lighten her spirits the day before

The speech was about to start, so Vien hurried over to where Levi's Squad was positioned at

"Just in time" Petra laughed

Vien kept her voice low, "Well I kind of got lost in training so Hanji had to remind me about this"

A voice interrupted behind them

"Oi brats. Keep your mouths shut"

Vien thought it was the Captain again until Petra laughed lowly

"Oluo if you're gonna scold us, at least stop acting like the Captain"

Both of them giggled when Oluo replied with a Tch. She watched Erwin go up the stage, about to discuss more of the expedition

"I've gathered all the four squads today to discuss the details on the expedition scheduled to start tomorrow at 7 am. The main objective of this trip is to supply equipment in our newly built base in the far mountains, but Squad Leader Hanji has made a request to capture a titan for biological purposes. Thus, the reason why I brought the Levi Squad and the Hanji Squad along" Erwin began

He continued, "Mike's and Dita's squad will be responsible for transporting, and the remaining two will take care of capturing a titan. Now before we can achieve success, we should be entering deep titan territory. But this time, we have medics assigned to every squad so hopefully the mortality rates will be decreasing hugely"

Deep titan territory? Vien gawked at the thought. She knew well that she wasn't responsible for titans because she was a medic, but it was fascinating to her. And she wanted to experience it at least once, despite hearing the brutal horrors from cadets she spoke to

"Use the rest of the evening to finalize preparations. All are to leave except medics, remain"

Vien hurried over to the front beside Aaron and the rest, and stood still waiting for instructions

Erwin spoke, "As your squad medic, you will be positioned in the middle of your squad formation, which is a triangle. During expedition, please keep in mind that fighting titans is your very last priority. Your duty is crucial to your squad's survival and you should make sure that you can provide aid as quickly as possible. An aiding kit will be carried with your 3DMG gear"

"Proceed to the doctors' quarters and prepare everything necessary. Four of you are now dismissed"

When they turned to leave, Vien saw Hanji and Levi near the stage and was about to approach them. Until Aaron grabbed her wrist

"Oi Vien, where are you going? We're supposed to be preparing kits by now" He chuckled at her

"Oh"

Vien's eyes travelled down to her wrist and blushed at his sudden gesture. Probably because she's never interacted much with males, she just shook it off and allowed him to hold it as they walked back to the doctors' quarters together

Hanji glanced at Levi and laughed loudly, "Oh that's Aaron, he's my medic. He's a really skilled doctor just like Vien, it makes them look so compatible with each other..."

"Tch" He averted his dull gaze to Hanji and scoffed "I never asked anything about that tall brat"

Erwin walked down the stage and approached them, "As you know I'll come along with both of you. I hope you've informed your squads about the formation. And make sure that you prevent the titans from getting a single scratch on the medics whilst they do their job, ensure that they won't have to use their last priority. Understood?"

"Understood sir" Hanji replied, while the Captain just nodded

The two squad leaders walked back into the building together, and Hanji as usual, broke the silence between them first

"I can't believe Erwin allowed us to capture a titan after how many months! This is going to be very exciting" Hanji loudly drawled

"Exciting, and awfully convenient"

Hanji glanced at him "Oh. Looks like someone is talkative today, I heard Mike had to wake you up. I guess you've been getting sleep nowadays huh. You even limited your tea time, anything new?"

"Shut it four eyes. Your annoyance makes me want to go back to bed"

Hanji grinned widely, "You even want to go to bed already. Did you hit your head somewhere? Or did you finally listen to Erwin and get help with your sleeping problem?"

Levi kept quiet for a while, before responding "I don't know what you're talking about. I won't ever consider receiving help from them"

"Not surprising, but I thought a doctor like Vien was helping you address your sleeping problem. Guess I was wrong" She scratched her hair in utter embarrassment

He glared at her "That brat? Tch"

"Haha" She laughed, "The way you address her feels like you've made someone as innocent as Vien cry"

"If that happened I'd get angry with myself for making that innocent brat cry, which is impossible. So leave and get lost"

Levi entered his office and closed the door behind him. Preparing his equipment for tomorrow's trip
