Chapter 60 - Imprisoned

Dahlia subtly watched the scouts, and when they left the dungeon, she called out the candidates from the other side "Hey Gabi, Falco!"

She could hear Gabi's unfriendly mumbles, but Falco was the one who answered "Y-yes Lieutenant?"

In a stern voice, she spoke "Get some rest, and stay put for now. And Gabi, I don't know if this is common sense at this point but don't think of doing stupid things"

"Yes Ms. Klein" Gabi grunted lowly

Dahlia furrowed her brows "Don't call me that, not when we're here"

"Oi, get up scum. The Commander of the Survey Corps has asked for you" Exclaimed a male scout at her

Unlike the candidates who were fast asleep already, Dahlia haven't budged from her seating position for hours. The voice of a yelling scout rang through her ears, and she chose to ignore it - but when she got annoyed, she quietly scoffs

"Huh? Did you just scoff at me you little scumbag?!" He loudly spat

"Connie, I know what happened before was a lot to take in, but don't put your anger out on others"

A woman's voice was sooner heard. Dahlia only faced the wall, but she sensed that two people were now on the other side of her cell. The Commander was watching her movements as she talked with the boy, seeing that she wasn't budging. What seemed weirder to her, was that the Lieutenant didn't seem the least flustered despite being detained in the enemy island

"Is it okay if I go and visit Sasha's grave this noon?" Asked the boy, sadness brimming in every word

Before the Commander replied, her attention was averted when she heard crumpling sounds. It was their Lieutenant's fist clenching the bed sheets. Her reaction began to drive thoughts inside her mind. But the slowly approaching footsteps snapped her out. The sound of it also got their Lieutenant's attention, as Dahlia silently heeded

"Oh Levi, what're you doing here?"

Levi grasped the bars of the cell, glaring daggers at the Lieutenant Colonel's back "I happened to hear that this rat's escaped several situations like this. I'm here to make sure that doesn't happen, so you can proceed to question her"

The other man salutted as he left

Few seconds later, the Commander started talking. "Hi there! My name is Hanji Zoe. The Commander of the Survey Corps" The woman blithely began to introduce herself

The scouts stared at her, silently waiting for a reply - there wasn't

But before Hanji could speak to her again, their Lieutenant responded

"You just want to ask me what Zeke's secret plan is, correct?"

They were right. The Lieutenant's voice alone already showed her lack of warmth and enthusiasm. It was also obvious that her mask made her voice deeper - which made it seem worse. Her frankness caught Hanji off guard, that she started chuckling awkwardly. Whilst Levi only raised a brow, staring hardly at the girl. But it was impossible to see her at this angle. It was also pitch black in the cell

Hanji rubbed her nape "I-I, uhm it's not actually like that we are just-"

"Yes" The Captain interrupted in a direct manner "I suppose you know how he betrayed your side"

Mentioning her country, they both expected her to feel angered or shocked at the statement. But her tone remained monotonous as she responded "I am on no one's side"

"Eh?!" Hanji exclaimed "But aren't you a commissioned officer of the Marleyan Military? You're even their Army's Lieutenant Colonel"

"I'll tell you everything I know, but you'll have to tell me something in exchange" Her voice lowered, and Levi could sense a few quakes in her words. He answered "What?"

The Lieutenant's voice was weak, but the bluntness was still there as she asked "What are the names of the scouts who died last night? All"

Hanji raised a brow "Huuuh? Why are you so curious about our men?"

A scoff escaped the Captain's lips

"Don't think it's going to be a short list, I'm including the 20 heads you blew up" "No, not including them"

"I-is there a young girl in that list?"

The papers flicked, creating sound in the silent room as Hanji began scanning the names. When she saw one, she replied in a forlorn tone

"One girl" "W-what's her name?"

Hanji opened her mouth, then a name was stated "Sasha Braus"

A brief pause of silence only came after that. Her reaction began to rise Levi's suspicions on her. The Lieutenant was quiet for a while before replying in a normal voice

"May I ask who killed that scout?"

Levi squinted his eyes "The little brown haired brat of yours did"

".....Gabi?"

"Jean, you've been quiet since this morning. What's wrong?" He asks

"I-it's just, I think I've gone insane"

Connie began resorting the uneasy silence into laughter, but the look on his face wasn't joking - so he stopped. It seemed like something was really bothering Jean's mind

"That soldier from last night, I-I'm not sure but her eyes resembled that of-" Jean came to a pause, hesitating to say a certain name

A scout, coming from the main office approached the room. He held the door handle, about to twist it open. But he heard a name from the other side - he stopped midway, as his eyes slowly widen the longer he listened to their conversation. What he heard was unbelievable, no, it was impossible

Connie was too stunned to speak, he stared at the man like he's indeed gone insane. He's joking right? I mean, it couldn't be possible

"O-oi.." He smacked his shoulder playfully "Don't make jokes like that, it's not funny in the slightest!"

Jean seemingly snapped out of his trance once he started to laugh with Connie. He stuttered "Y-yeah, I don't know what I was thinking"

"Armin, what are you listening to?"

"Impossible" His eyes were bulged as he moved away from the door

A look of worry spread on Mikasa's face as she repeated her question. She didn't know that his silence was the sound of rumbling thoughts that played with his mind. It was literally common sense. But the further he thought into the idea, the bigger his hunch became

She nudged him "Armin!"

Jolting in place, the boy held his nape as he stuttered "O-oh, sorry I didn't see you there. I-it's nothing"
