Standing a few steps away from me , Kiku gave a warm smile. His sun-kissed complexion radiated a soft warm glow.
My heart fluttered a little looking at him like that. Yet, I contained my feelings again and nodded at him, smiling.
"Yes, it is."
Silence prevailed between us once again. I stared at the ground below. My heart thumped in my chest, eagerly anticipating his next words. However, Kiku too was silently staring at the ground.
"I must take the first step," I thought.
"Kiku, I - "
"Miss (Y/n) - "We stopped and looked at each other.
"Oh I'm sorry. Please go ahead," I said.
"No, it's alright. Please continue what you were saying."
"No, no! It's okay, I don't mind if you said first!"
"But I would mind if I said first while cutting you off, Miss (Y/n)!"
"But - "We stared at each other and let out a short laugh after realizing.
"We're arguing over such a small thing," I giggled.
"Yes, it feels good like this sometimes," Kiku smiled.I looked over at him and let out a bright smile. It has been a long time since we had a nice talk like this. I missed those days when we could freely talk with each other like this, like the time we went to a date-
Date...
A small pain pierced my heart when I remembered the time all my dreams were shattered...But I learnt that new dreams could be made and here I am right now.
The man standing before me...I loved him for a long time and dreamt to be with him. Even though I can't embrace those dreams anymore...I still want to be his friend.
"I wanted to say something to you, Miss (Y/n)."
"What is it, Kiku?" I asked.
Kiku looked hesitant at first, but he slowly shifted his gaze and looked at me straight with determined eyes.
"I wanted to apologize for all the trouble you went through for me," he said firmly.
I blinked in confusion.
"I-I don't understand," I said.
Kiku slightly looked away. "I didn't treat you properly before. I hurt your feelings yet you still came to help me. I...wanted to thank you..."
I noticed a faint blush on his cheeks.
A smile crept on my lips. "It's alright, Kiku. I never did any of this to get you to thank me. I care about you, that's why I did this."
The Japanese man looked at me, surprised. "Y-You cared about...I mean, thank you for your kindness," he cleared his throat in embarrassment.
I nodded at him.
Unbeknownst to us both, a certain Chinese man was leaning against a nearby tree and listening to our conversation with a smile.
Kiku let out a deep breath and continued," I also wanted to say that-"
He stopped and looked straight ahead.
I saw him staring past me and followed his gaze. I turned back to see two buff men in black suits coming towards our direction. They stopped when they reached our spot.
"Are you Miss (Y/n)?" one of them asked.
"Y-Yes, I am," I replied. The two of them looked at each other and then faced me.
"We have been sent by your family. I'm afraid your father has been in an accident."
