I opened my eyes in astonishment as I recognized whose voice that was.

"Yao!!" I cried out.

Sound of running footsteps echoed against the walls. However, there was no one was in sight. The men stood in alert, looking around them to spot the new arrival. Kusuhara tsked and positioned his katana in front of him.

I noticed a few of them were already loading their guns. My mind was urging me to shout and warn Yao about it. I took in a deep breath and yelled as loud as I could.

"YAO, THEY- "

Before I could finish, a figure shrouded in darkness leaped down from the ceiling and gave a powerful kick to one of the men in the face. We watched in shock as the man was sent flying across the room till his back hit hard against the wall and fell down, defeated.

The air in the room grew still.

The figure slowly stood up straight, revealing the face of a man whose eyes that were once filled with warmth and kindness were now burning with rage and unforgiveness.

"Y-Yao...?" I stared at him with tearful eyes.

I have never seen him like this before. Not even during his fight with Kiku. Yao, who always smiled even while hiding his pain, looked so murderous now...

Was it because of me?

Without a warning, Yao charged towards the gang. Kusuhara seemed startled but immediately gave out orders.

"Korose!!!"

His men roared out in unison. "Hai!!" They started aiming their guns at Yao.

"No!! Yao!!!" I shrieked.

Yet Yao didn't hesitate in storming forward. His fierce expression remained unchanged as he lunged in front of one of the enemies. Before the man could pull the trigger, Yao kicked the gun out of his hands and punched at his gut. With the opponent fallen on his knees, the awoken lion moved on to his next target. One after another, he disarmed and knocked out the men.

I watched, dumbfounded. Yao was not only strong in his attacks but also very agile in his movements.

I realized that all this time I was so accustomed to seeing Yao being playful, I forgot that he was the oldest nation. Seeing him this way, I somehow felt both grateful and intimidated to have him always beside me.

Yao...how do you feel about this...?

I was lost in witnessing the scene before me when suddenly I noticed Kusuhara about to attack Yao from a blind spot.

"Yao, behind you!!"

Yao heard my voice and turned around just in time to block the katana's blow with his shoe sole in a high kick.

Kusuhara gritted his teeth and held his katana tighter against Yao. "So it seems we have an unlikely guest who doesn't know how to introduce himself," he asserted.

"Shut up, aru!!!" With effort, Yao successfully managed to force the katana off him, making Kusuhara stagger back.

He then lept on the armed Japanese and launched a series of kicks which Kusuhara barely blocked with his katana.

"How dare you hurt (Y/n) like that, aru?!?! What has she done to you?!?" Yao shouted without stopping his strong attacks.

"W-We have nothing personal against her. We just n-needed her," replied Kusuhara, struggling to defend himself.

"You hurt her!!! I won't forgive you, aru!!"

With one last kick, Kusuhara was thrown against a pile of boxes that collapsed upon him.

Yao crouched down and panted heavily. Taking his final huff of breath, he stood up and turned to me.

"(Y/n)..."

"Yao..." Tears started welling up in my eyes again.

Without wasting a moment, Yao came running up to me and embraced me tightly in his arms.

"I'm...so glad you're safe, aru...I'm so glad..." I heard Yao sniffle as he rested his head on top of mine.

I couldn't hold it in much longer either. I hid my face in his chest and started sobbing. "I-I thought...I was..."

All my emotions overwhelmed me altogether. Finally I could cry them all out.

Yao caressed the back of my head and gently whispered. "It's okay, (Y/n). I'm here for you, aru." With a final gentle stroke, he looked down into my eyes. The same warm and kind gaze I always loved.

"Let me take you back home, aru," he smiled.

With eyes still moist, I nodded with a smile.

He untied the ropes and helped me get on my feet. At first my feet felt weak but Yao held my hand to support me.

"Let's get out of he- "

Yao and I stopped when we saw the gun pointed at us.
