Eloquence of A Residence

The house was slightly bigger than the other houses I saw here, with stone walls surrounding it. The wooden gate ornated with metal dragon handles radiated a warm glow under the light of the overhead lanterns.

Yao went up to open the gate. He held the the handles and pulled the door open wide.

"Yao, wasn't it locked?" I asked him.

"Hmm? Why, aru? It's not like someone will steal from me," his smile gleamed under the soft light.

I gazed tenderly at his pure innocence and trust for others.

Yao held my hand and led me to what looked like the courtyard. There were trees and flowers lining up against one side whereas the other three sides were surrounded by the residence.

A clean stone-laden path lead to the main entrance door.  Yao took me to the door while I stared around, taking in the beauty of the place.

On opening the door, he turned on the lights inside.

I stood there, awestruck by the interior.

Even though the place was dimly lit by decorative lanterns, the furnishing and decors stood out from the warm blends of the reddish walls. It looked as if I had walked into a thousand year old portrait.

The golden light behind the oil-painted paper screen hanging on the opposite wall, fell on the lacquered wood furniture at the centre, making them glow in lusture.

"Yao...this is..." I looked around me, struck by the beauty.

Yao grinned. "There's more, aru," he said as he took me through a door, revealing a corridor.

We made our way down the corridor till Yao stopped infront of a room. "And this is your room, aru!" He pulled the door open for me.

I beamed on seeing my room. The walls were painted in a light shade of pastel with a large wall painting of plum blossoms hanging on top of the wooden bed. Lacquered wooden cabinets with vases and decors on top lined up against a side, while the dresser and wardrobe on another.

I turned to Yao. "Thank you so much, Yao!" I smiled.

Yao returned my smile with his own kind one. "I'm happy you liked it, aru. Now you should get changed. We will eat after that."

I nodded and entered the room.

Yao closed the door behind him and left to get changed himself.

I laid down on my bed and looked up at the embellished ceiling with a smile. Somehow, all my worry from before drained out of my body. My eyes started feeling heavy and I slowly closed them, gradually dozing off to sleep.

The next day, I ended up getting scolded by Yao for not eating last night and going to bed without changing my clothes. I lowered my head, embarrassed.

With a small sigh, Yao patted my head and smiled.

"I understand, aru. You were tired. Why don't we eat together now and then take you out?"

My face lit up on hearing that.

I agreed and sat for breakfast with him. Yao's cooking was still as best as ever. Still, I wonder where he was planning on taking me.

I'm eager to know what today will be like.
