At the Café

Last night's party was really memorable. I got to know so many new countries. And besides that...I think Kiku and I got a bit closer.

I blushed as I walked down the stairs to the breakfast room. However, I found no one there.

"That's strange. Is breakfast over?" I thought.

The door creaked open behind me. I turned and saw Antonio waving at me.

"Good morning, (Y/n)."
"Good morning, Antonio. Why isn't anyone here yet?"

"Today everyone's eating out. You see, all are so tired after the party that they decided they won't make breakfast. So we were thinking about going out to get something," he smiled.

"That sounds nice. But Yao didn't tell me anything about it," I wondered aloud.
He chuckled. "I'm sure he's looking around every corner of the mansion for you."

"(Y/nnnn)!!"

Yao burst into the room. "I was looking everywhere for you, aru!"

"Oh, I'm sorry. I should have waited for you."
"It's alright, aru. Everyone is waiting for you outside. Let's go, aru!"

He held my hand and guided me outside. Antonio followed us. It may be my imagination but I think I overheard him saying 'This is getting interesting'.

The weather was calm and pleasant. It would be a good day to go for a walk. Alfred and the others stood by the gate.

"I'm sorry for being late," I apologized.
"It's okay, love. Anyways we should be heading out now."
"Ve~ Let's have pasta~" Feliciano skipped in excitement.
"No!!" All the countries refused together.
The Italian man sighed.

Ludwig turned to me. "(Y/n), what do you want to have?"

I thought for a moment. "Well, I feel like having pancakes today."
"In that case, I know a good place where we can eat," Antonio said.

He led the way to a street which was lined up by many restaurants, cafés and bakeries on both sides.

"This is called the Park Street, aru. There are many good restaurants here," Yao explained to me.
"It's nice," I smiled.

"Here we are." Antonio stopped in front of a coffee shop. The place had glass windows through which we could see the interior. It seemed really cozy. A sign outside the shop read 'Café Twinkle'.

As we entered, the owner welcomed us. We chose a table and started taking our seats.

"(Y/n)," Yao whispered to me.
"Yes, Yao?"
"Go sit beside Japan and talk to him, aru."
"But what if he minds?" I asked nervously.

The Chinese man gently patted on my head. "I'm sure he won't, aru." He smiled. His words gave me confidence. I nodded and went to Kiku.

"Umm...excuse me, Kiku. Would you mind if I sit beside you?"

I tried my best to stay calm and not lose consciousness again. But I was feeling too shy and light‐headed.

Kiku looked at me and smiled. "It would be my pleasure."

I felt delighted on hearing that. I could feel butterflies in my stomach.

"Thank you very much!" I bowed and took my seat. My eyes went over to Yao who was smiling at me. He was about to sit down opposite to me when Antonio stopped him.

"Hey China, would you mind if I sit here? I want to sit next to Romano."
"Stay away from me, you bastard!" Lovino scoffed at him.
"You can sit beside (Y/n)! See, the seat's empty. Please, China?" Antonio begged him.

"Uh, okay aru."

Yao came up and sat beside me. We took the menu cards and ordered for ourselves.

"I want two hamburgers!" Alfred gave his order.
"Can't you act like a grown‐up for once? And stop eating hamburgers so much," Arthur said.
"Alright, I don't want hamburgers," the blonde American pouted.
"That's more like it. You should ‐"
"I want two cheeseburgers!!"

We all laughed while Arthur's head drooped in disappointment.

"What would you like to have, Kiku?" I asked him as I saw him studying the menu card.

He turned to me. "I was thinking of getting myself pancakes."
"T‐That's a good choice," I couldn't help but smile. Our tastes were so similar.

"What should I get, aru...?"

I overheard Yao talking to himself. "You couldn't decide what to have, Yao?" I asked him. He shook his head.

"The pancakes here are delicious. You should try them, China," Antonio suggested him.
"Alright then, aru! I'll have pancakes too!"
"Tsk...always copying me..." Kiku muttered.
Yao sweatdropped.

As soon as the food arrived, everyone started digging in. The food was indeed delicious. I couldn't help but fill myself.

"Mmmm...The bittersweet aroma of this coffee makes me jubilant. I won't mind if I have to come here every‐" Francis spit out the coffee that he drank and turned towards us.

"Who put salt in my coffee?!"

We looked at each other, confused. Then all our eyes landed on Arthur who seemed unbothered by the commotion and drank his milk tea like a true gentleman.

We got our answer.

Thus, started a food war between Francis and Arthur as the former threw his cheesecake at the latter's face.

"Woahhh!! Let me join too! Nahahahaha!"

Alfred participated in this 'battle' and after a few rounds, emerged victorious with his cheeseburgers. What else could you expect from the most powerful country?

"Okay now, enough of the fight," Ludwig finally spoke up.

Peace settled once again and we talked amongst ourselves. Kiku talked to me about the traditional food of his land. I quietly listened to him as I noticed sparkles in his eyes. I realized he would get excited when talking about his culture. I smiled to myself.

Out of the corner of my eye, I caught Yao gazing at me and smiling. I felt at ease. He was looking after me like a true friend. There is no way I could repay him for what he was doing for me...

After we completed our breakfast, we paid the bill and walked out of the café. Alfred stretched his arms and turned to us.

"I'm heading off to the arcade. Anyone wants to join me?"

All the countries agreed except for Yao.

"You don't want to go, Yao?" I asked him.
"I do want to, aru. But I have some work to do. And if I don't start now, I won't be able to complete it on time."
"Oh, I see..."
"Aiyah, such a pain, aru! I possibly won't finish it on time. My boss will kill me!"

I frowned. Then, a thought crossed my mind.

"Yao, would you like me to help you with your work?" I asked.

He turned to me. "You know all these stuff, (Y/n) aru?"
"My father works for the government. I sometimes help him out," I answered.
"That would be great, aru! Thank you, (Y/n)!"
I smiled.

We started leaving for the mansion when Antonio suddenly called out to Yao.

"What is it, Spain?" Yao walked back to him. Antonio whispered something in his ears. Suddenly, Yao's face turned a bright shade of red.

"What?! No, I wasn't, aru!"

The spanish country grinned at him. "We'll see about that."

"Is there something wrong, Yao?" I called out to him. He stared at me for a few moments and then shook his head vigorously.

"I‐It's nothing, (Y/n). Let's go, aru!"

We walked on our way to the mansion. Yao still had a red blush on his cheeks. What did Antonio tell him? Maybe I'll ask him when we reach the mansion.
