I looked out of the plane window to view the bright city lights in the night sky from above.
The tall buildings of Shanghai emanated across the entire city, with its beauty enhanced by the surrounding river.

"So beautiful," I whispered aloud.

Yao chuckled. "Welcome to China, aru."

Our flight soon landed and we departed with our luggages towards the exit.

"Let me take you to my hometown, (Y/n). You'll have lots to eat there!" Yao spread his arms out like a little boy.

I smiled at his cuteness.

Soon, our cab arrived and we headed towards Yao's hometown.

Staring out at the passing scenery in wonder, I couldn't help but think what Yao's place would be like. Does he like the big cities, or the quiet towns?

I turned to him.

"Yao, what is your hometown like?" I asked.
He gave me a wink. "You'll see for yourself, aru."

The rest of the drive went by with me pointing at signs and asking Yao what it meant. He laughed every time I curiously asked him.

"We're here, aru!"

We finally reached the entrance of the town. The streets were bustling with activity even this late at night. Red lanterns hung from above, casting a golden light onto the crowds.

I got off the car and looked around in awe.

So this is where Yao is from. So beautiful.

"Do you like it, aru?" Yao smiled at me.
"I love it―"

The loud clang of a gong startled me. I looked ahead to see a man looking at us in amazement.

"Měi gèrén! Tā láile!" he shouted to the others.

Suddenly, everyone started gathering around us. They looked delighted and eagerly talked to Yao in Chinese. I stepped back a little to give them their moment, but Yao grabbed my hand.

"This is (Y/n), aru. She came with me here," he introduced me with a wide smile.

The people looked at me, amazed.

"Nǚ péngyǒu?" Someone asked.
"No, aru!!" Yao cried out, blushing.

I blinked in confusion. Gradually, a few people approached me and welcomed me in broken English.

My face beamed in happiness. I bowed to them. "Xìe xìe!"

This caused the crowd to roar into applause. I looked at Yao, who nodded at me, proudly.

This place...the people...they felt like my own even though I never knew them before. I felt a different bond with them already. I smiled at the liveliness of this precious town.

"(Y/n), let me show you my house, aru," Yao whispered to me.

He suddenly took my hand and ran through the crowd, taking me along with him. I laughed at his silly antics. I guess, being in your own hometown really does make you feel much happier inside.

We passed through lanes lined by traditional houses on both sides, till we stopped in front of one right on the main street.

Yao turned to me, smiling. "Huānyíng dào wǒjiā lái! Welcome to my home, aru!"
