We were in Belarus' room. She sat at the edge of her bed while I remained standing.

Her tears had dried up and she was staring at the floor.

"My brother..." she finally spoke.

"My brother had always been targeted when he was young. I would always watch as he returned home all beaten up. There was nothing I could do back then..."

I never knew Ivan had such a bad past. He seemed so powerful, I thought the other countries wouldn't even dare to look down on him.

"He never got the love that he wanted...he was always alone. That's why...that's why I have pledged that I would love him till the end!"

"Isn't that..."
Belarus looked at me.

"Isn't that love born out of pity?"

A stunned look crossed Belarus' face. She stood up.

"W‐What do you mean?! It's not like that!"

"You love your brother because you think that he isn't loved by anyone else. Don't you think that you love him only because you feel sorry for ‐"

I felt a sudden jolt of shock through my face as Belarus slapped me.

"You know nothing! Nothing!!" She flopped down on the bed and started crying again.

I put my hand over my reddened cheek as I looked at her. Even if she just hit me, I didn't feel anger at all. Rather, I felt sorry for her.

I sat down beside her. "I'm sorry Belarus for what I just said...I really ‐"

"You're right."

I was surprised by her sudden words.

"My love isn't real...And Big Brother knows that. That's why he hates me!"

I frowned. She was really hard to handle. But I was determined to help this girl.

"You can't force someone to love you, Belarus!" I said in a firm tone.
She turned to me, astonished.

"Love isn't something that can be forced on someone. Even if you love them, you can't do anything if they don't love you back!"

I could see that her feelings were crushed. But she had to face reality. Or else neither Ivan nor she could be happy.

I sighed as I placed my hand over hers. "You love your brother a lot...But then you should realize that you should put his feelings before yours. You must respect his decisions."

A long silence prevailed between us. I waited for Belarus to say something. All of a sudden, she stood up and walked towards the door.

"Belarus, where are you going?"

She didn't respond.
I decided to follow her.

She led me to the living room again where I saw everyone sitting quietly. They stood up on seeing us, even Ivan.

I stood there as I watched her approach him. Ivan seemed unsettled by her presence but he did not say anything.

"I..." Belarus spoke up.

We all looked at her.

As if she was having a hard time, she finally got her words out.

"I am very sorry, big brother!"

Ivan stared at her in disbelief.

"I am sorry that I always tried to force my love on you! I never considered your feelings! I am sorry for that!"

The Russian man did not say a word. He just stood there, staring at his sister. Finally, he raised his hand and placed it over her head.

Belarus looked up.

Ivan smiled at her with moist eyes. He gently stroke her hair to calm her down.

"It's okay, da. You have finally understood and I'm glad for that."

"Big brother..."

Belarus hugged her brother and cried in his arms. Ivan too shed tears of joy as he hugged her back.

We all witnessed the beautiful moment with a happy smile. I was glad I was able to do something for them. Yao came up beside me and gently patted on my head.

"You did a good job, aru."

Belarus turned around and faced me. "I want to say thank you to you, (Y/n). Because of you, I got my brother back."

"It's alright, Belarus," I smiled.
"Y‐You don't have to call me that...Just Natalya would be okay," she said as she looked away, blushing.
"Yes, Natalya."

I was happy that I could be of help to someone. It made my heart swell with joy.

After everything settled down, we continued with our work.
