"Yao?"

Something was different. His face was the same but he did not have his long ponytail.

"You're looking for my teacher, I guess. He's there, I guess." He pointed towards the balcony.

"Oh. Thank you for telling me."
"It's okay, I guess."
"Umm, can you tell me who you are? You look a lot like Yao."

The young man studied me from top to toe and then crossed his arms. "You and my teacher must be close, I guess."

My face flushed on hearing that.

"No, no! It's nothing like that! I‐I should get going," I got myself out from the embarrassing situation as I made my way to the balcony.

Yao was standing there, staring into the distance. I quietly went forward and stood beside him.

"Won't you join the others, Yao?"
His head shot towards me in surprise. "(Y/n)!"
I smiled.

He averted his gaze. "I don't feel like it today, aru."
"Why is that, Yao?"
"Because..." he broke off.

Even though Yao frowned, he looked like a little child whose toy has been taken from him. The thought made me giggle.

"(Y/n)?" He looked at me, confused.

"I am happy, Yao..."
He blinked.
"I am happy...that I got you as my friend," I smiled.

Yao stared at me for a while and then chuckled. "Where is this coming from all of a sudden, aru?"
"From my heart, Yao."

He stopped laughing. Looking away, he gave a sad smile.

"That's unfair, (Y/n)..." he whispered.
"What do you mean, Yao?" Now it was my turn to be confused.

"You can speak whatever's in your heart. I can't do that, aru..."
"You can always open your heart to me!"
"No, I can't do that, aru..."
"But why?"

He turned to me and smiled. The sun's rays that fell on his face made his features radiate a warm glow. I couldn't take my eyes off him.

"Because then I might lose a dear friend..."

I stared at him. As I snapped out of my daze, I looked at him, still confused. What did he mean by that?

"We don't always get what we desire, (Y/n). But I will surely bring your desires to life, aru!"
"M‐My desires?" I asked.
He smiled. "Japan..."

Kiku...I had almost forgotten about him. But how can that be possible? What was happening to me?

Yao continued. "The only person you love is Japan, aru. And nothing can change that. You two will come together and live happily forever."

I smiled at his words.

He was right. Kiku was the one whom I have loved for years. He is the one my heart desires for the most...

"Thank you, Yao."

"Aiyah, no need to thank me, aru! I'm just doing what a friend needs to do!" He rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment.
"You are truly a wonderful friend."
"That's ‐ "

He was interrupted by an 'Ahem' from behind. We turned and saw the same man who resembled Yao.

"Hong Kong, aru!"

So this was Hong Kong. I remembered Yao mentioning to me that he had raised him. The said man came closer to us.

"Teacher, long time no see, I guess." He bowed to Yao.

"Hong Kong! Where have you been, aru? I missed you so‐ Wait! You haven't met (Y/n) yet! (Y/n), this is Hong Kong!"

Hong Kong glanced at me. "I've met her before, I guess."
"You did, aru??"
"Yes, I guess."

I introduced myself. "My name is (Y/n). Thank you once again for your help earlier."
"It's okay, I guess. I'm Leon."

After the greetings, Leon turned to Yao again.

"Teacher, your boss has sent this letter for you," he said, taking out an envelope.
"What, aru?!"

He took the letter and opened it. After reading the contents, he sighed. "Aiyah..."

"Is there something wrong, Yao?" I asked.
"There's going to be a meeting for the Asian countries, aru. I need to be present there," he answered.

A meeting for the Asian countries? Which means Kiku will be going there too.

"I see. Good luck, Yao," I smiled.

He shook his head. "You will be coming with us too, (Y/n)."

Wait, what?!

"I‐I will be coming...?"
"My boss says he wants to meet you, aru. The meeting will be held after two weeks. Be prepared, (Y/n)."

I got anxious. What if I mess up there?

Yao must have sensed my nervousness. He smiled at me and whispered in my ear.

"Just be yourself, (Y/n). Everything will be alright, aru."

I somehow felt relaxed. I turned to Yao and smiled back.

"So close, I guess..." Leon kept staring at us. We sweatdropped.

Finally, I got to win back Yao's friendship. My heart couldn't contain the joy it felt. When I thought he wasn't there, I felt so lost. Yet he was actually still there for me this entire time. I wish I can do something for him. Maybe someday I can repay his favours a bit. Let's just hope and see...
