I Want to be a Country Too

With the matter between Alfred and Matthew being settled, I found myself taking a stroll around the city with Yao.

"It's been a while since we hanged out like this, aru," Yao said.
"Yes, last time it was so fun," I replied, smiling.

Yao stretched his arms and looked up at the sky.

"It feels so nice to go out with you, aru. It almost feels like we're on a date," he said with a nervous laughter.

My head shot at him.

"W‐W‐What??" I stammered. My cheeks burned red.

Realizing what he just said, he looked at me with a flustered face.

"I‐It's not what you think it is, aru!!" It's just...just..."

Finding no words to say, Yao kept quiet and continued walking while looking down. His cheeks still held a deep blush. I could feel my own heart racing as well. I wanted to hear what he had to say. I wanted to know what he thought...

...about me.

I shook off the thoughts. It's impossible for someone like Yao to have feeling for me. He can get anyone who is far better than I am. I shouldn't have thought about this in the first place. There is no way he likes me.

"There is..."

I turned to Yao in disbelief. What did he just...?

"There is something I wanted to say to you, (Y/n)..." he said almost in a whisper.

"O‐Oh...yes, please say," I replied, a bit shyly.

We reached the plaza where a big fountain stood in the centre, encircled by benches all around.

We stood by the fountain as Yao continued.

"I wanted to tell you something, (Y/n)..."
"Y‐Yes?"

He let out a deep breath and looked straight into my eyes. I stood still although I was shaking from inside. Many emotions came over me. I could no longer understand what to do next.

"(Y/n)...I ‐"

"I finally found you!"

We heard a voice from somewhere. We turned to see who it was but no one was there besides us and a few people sitting on the benches or walking by.

"Down here!"

We looked down and found a blonde boy wearing a sailor outfit. However, what stood out the most in him were his thick eyebrows. I thought they matched with Arthur's eyebrows a lot.

"Umm...who are you?" I asked.
"Wait, aru! Aren't you..."

"That's right! I'm the country of Sealand! The youngest and the most powerful country of all!" the boy boasted.

"But you're not a country, aru," Yao sweatdropped.
"That's what I'm about to change today!" he said then turned to me.

I looked at him, confused.

Sealand came up to me and stared into my eyes. He intently kept looking at me as if he was staring into my soul.

"Umm..." I nervously stood.

Soon, his eyes started getting moist and he teared up.

"Please help me!!"

Totally taken aback, I glanced over at Yao. He too had the same confused look.

"Please help me! Please, please!" the young blonde cried.

I bent down and tried to calm him down. "Don't cry, Sealand. Please tell us everything," I comforted him.

All of a sudden, he stopped crying and looked at me with big eyes. "So you'll help me?"
"I...umm..."
"Yes! I knew you would help me! By the way, you can call me Peter! Peter Kirkland!" he introduced himself.

"Kirkland? Are you related to Arthur?" I asked.

"Yes! I'm that jerk England's younger brother!" He innocently smiled.

"O‐Oh, I see. But what did you need help with, Peter?" I enquired.
Yao leaned in and whispered in my ears. "He will trouble you, aru."
"I can at least try to help him. I'll see what I can do," I said.
Yao sighed.

"Yes, Peter. Tell me."

Peter gave a nod before he continued. "Please help me...become a country!"

I smiled at him. "Of course, I'll help you become...Wait, what?!" My smile faded.

Yao gave a deep sigh and shook his head. "I knew it, aru."

"But how can I do that?" I asked him.

"It's simple! Just go and tell them! I've heard that they listen to everything you say!" Peter beamed.

"I‐I don't think I have the authority to..."

I watched as his eyes welled up with tears again. He was about to start crying when Yao yelled out.

"Aiyah! Wy and Seborga, it's good to see you, aru!"

Peter quickly turned around. "Wy and Seborga?! Where, where??"

Yao took the chance and held my hand. He led me towards one bench where we both hid behind it. We peered out and looked.

Peter turned around and saw that we weren't there. "Hey! Where did you go? Come back!" He ran off to the opposite direction.

We sighed in relief and came out of our hiding spot. "Thank goodness, aru."

"I'm sorry, Yao..."
He looked at me, confused.

"I made a promise before thinking twice about it and almost landed ourselves into trouble," I apologized with my head lowered.

Yao gave a gentle smile as he came closer to me.

I got startled to see his face so close to mine. He raised his hand and lightly patted on my head.

"You're a nice girl, (Y/n). Even if we did land in trouble, I would have somehow got us out of it, aru," he replied.

His words made my heart pound in my chest. It was unfair how easily he made me feel like that. But...I somehow liked it.

Yao took my hand and we continued with our small stroll.

"By the way, Yao. What were you going to tell me earlier?" I asked.
His cheeks reddened again on hearing that.

"I‐I was going to say that you would look good in a Qipao, aru," he answered, clearly embarrassed.

"That's the clothing of your country, right?"
"Shì! Someday, I will show you what China is like, aru!"
I smiled. "I would love to see it, Yao!"

We walked around the city, still holding hands. Being with Yao always made me feel safe and happy. I'm glad I met him. He's the best friend I could ask for.

Friend...? No, he was more than that. He was...special to me. But I still didn't know what he was to me. Maybe someday I will find out. Someday...
