Maria POV-
I arrive at the party later than expected, I'd had a busy day at the shield office so was glad when I got this invite from Tony.
It's only a small party today, friends and Family of the avengers so pretty much just me, Pepper and Helen Cho were here.
The night is in full flow and I say hello to everyone but I haven't seen Y/N at any point
Maria- Hey Tony, where is Y/N?
Tony- still in her room I think, she might need help getting changed
Maria- why?
Tony- dislocated her shoulder on the mission today
I run straight up to her room and open the door to find her asleep in bed. I walk around and lay next to her causing her to wake up
Y/N- I overslept?
Maria- it's okay, how you feeling?
Y/N- oh you know, I was thrown through a wall so great
She gets up and I start helping her get ready, it's meant to be smart but she can't wear much with her sling so we go a little more casual and both head down to the party
Tony- look who finally decided to join us
She sticks her middle finger up at him as she walks to the kitchen
Maria- I woke her up, give her some time to come back to reality
Y/N POV-
Being woken up is honestly the worst thing for me, I was enjoying my sleep and probably could've slept the whole night with how tired I was but nope, I wasn't allowed.
Before I could even think about socialising, I had to get some food. I hadn't eaten since breakfast so I grab some snacks and eat them in the kitchen.
Nat- you gonna share those?
Y/N- nope, all mine
Nat- can I not even have one?
Y/N- what do I get in return?
Nat- whatever you want
I hand her the bag of cookies and she grabs a couple before sitting down next to me
Nat- are you avoiding the party?
Y/N- not really feeling it if I'm honest
Nat- we can stay here if you'd like?
I go to answer when Maria walks in and sits in front of us both
Maria- Tony wants you
Y/N- I swear that guy is a child, let's pray he doesn't reproduce. You coming?
Maria- we will be there in a minute, I've got something to discuss with Nat
Y/N- see you soon ladies
Nat POV-
Even when Y/N wasn't in the mood, she was always the best person in the room. She knew how to make people happy and knew what it took to keep people going.
Nat- so we did we need to discuss?
Maria- there's nothing to discuss, you just need to sit and listen to me. Got it?
Nat- okay?
Maria- you've made it incredibly obvious how much you like Y/N and yet she has no idea. When it comes to relationships, she's completely useless. Considering her job is to work out how people feel, she's not great at it when it comes to herself
Nat- I haven't made it that obvious?
Maria- you barely leave her alone and you always check up on her, you like her Nat
Nat- yes okay I do
Maria- she will tell you that she isn't ready and that she doesn't know if she will get over Ella but don't let that stop you. I can tell how much she likes you.
Nat- you really think so?
Maria- she gave you food, she's never given me food. I try to touch it and she thinks it's danger
I go to reply when Y/N comes back in
Y/N- I swear to God that man is a complete idiot
Nat- what did he want?
Y/N- he was hoping I'd stand there and let people throw things at me to see if I could avoid them
I start laughing and she stares at me, her glance stops me laughing.
Y/N- I'm tired and hangry, laughing at me isn't a good option Romanoff
Maria- oh Y/N, I've got something to tell you
Y/N- go ahead
Maria- there's someone at this party who wants to take you on a date
Y/N- huh? That's news to me
Maria leans over and whispers 'I told you', I just start laughing and look towards Y/N who is eating cookies whilst doing a little happy dance
Maria- would you date anyone?
Y/N- I don't think I'm ready yet, what about you Nat?
I didn't know what to say, I didn't want to make it obvious I was interested in her but I also didn't want to close it off
Nat- I guess it depends if the right person came along
Y/N- preach that, dating is way too much hard work
The conversation goes on for a while and Maria keeps giving hints but Y/N has no idea, I thought Maria was lying but Y/N is honestly so blind to feelings.
Y/N POV-
We've all been called into the main room, I follow in behind the girls and sit next to Nat. She's got her arm on the sofa behind me so I lay down with my head resting on chest. I look up and smile at her, I can see her smiling back.
Nat- you comfy?
Y/N- very but I'm actually trying to steal the cookies you brought in here
Nat- what do I get if I share them?
Y/N- whatever you want
I laugh as she hands me the cookies and I start to do a little dance again
Nat- how much have you drunk?
Y/N- according to my calculations, way too much!
She wraps her arm around me and I snuggle into her whilst enjoying my cookies. I had never felt this safe before and everything finally clicked to what Maria was saying
Y/N- she was talking about you
Nat- what?
Y/N- Maria and the whole dating thing
Nat- I don't know what you're talking about
Y/N- okay then, whenever you're ready we can talk about it
The night continues and it's going well, the guys are trying to lift Mjolnir but with no success. I push Nat's arm off me and stand up, I can feel danger but there's nothing there
Nat- what's going on?
