Narrator POV-

You both lay in bed breathless, Nat's head resting on your bare chest as you gently stroke up and down her back
Nat- it's been a while since we've done that
Y/N- and I'm still as good as ever
You both couldn't help but laugh, things were perfect again and you knew it.

Friday- Miss Romanoff and Miss Clarke, you presence is being requested in the main room
Nat- well duty calls

Steve, Tony and Fury were all waiting for you as you walked into the main room, eyes falling on you.
Y/N- why are you all looking at me like that?
Steve- we've got a plan

Y/N POV-

They'd located a base which the group we were tracking had been working out of, the problem was it was in the middle of New York.
I'd been tasked with scouting the building so here I was, dressed in a delivery uniform with my fake parcel heading into the building.

Cameras located in every hallway and entrance to each room. The security was too high for a regular office
??- sorry, can I help you?
Y/N- I've got a parcel for Nelson
??- there's no one here by that name
Y/N- is this the right address?
??- yes
Y/N- strange, I'll return to depot and they can sort it out

I left the building quicker than ever, I didn't want to give them any reason to suspect me as I headed down the elevator.

I got outside the building then all I heard was BOOM!
I was thrown across the floor, my vision blurred by deep black smoke which filled the air.
I rolled over and crawled away from the building, pieces of debris falling down with cars alarms blaring and screams from bystanders.

Sirens came soon as the firefighters started putting out the fire.
Police arrived on scene as ambulances pulled in by the dozen.
I took off the delivery shirt and stood there in my vest as I helped people away from the flames.

The cleanup had started when another loud bang rung around the city but this time, it wasn't close to here.
Smoke filling the sky as I jumped on the back of a police motorcycle heading that way.
My shield badge could get me anywhere as I entered the scene.

AJ- Y/N thank God, you're bleeding
Y/N- that what happens when you get blown up
AJ- what the hell is going on? This is the 4th bomb today
Y/N- I don't know but first, we get these people to safety then we figure this shit out.

Time passed as the fires were fought, no more bombs had detonated but 2 had been stopped before they could.
The Avengers had been stretched round the city as had Shield resources.

I'd been stationed at a local city hall running the desk for missing people. We were using DNA to match to bodies and this was the hardest part, I was the one to tell families if their loved one had passed during the bombings.
I agreed to do it, I knew what it was like to lose a loved one and I could help them if they needed it.

The Avengers turned up at the hall, tired and broken.
It had been an incredibly hard day for everyone when Oscar took a seat next to me.

Oscar- You've been doing this too long, take a break
Y/N- I've got things to do
Oscar- your sanity is more important, hand the clipboard over and take a break.

He wasn't going to let me win this one, I handed everything over and went out the back.
A quiet area with a couple chairs as I took a seat, the sky still filled with smoke as flames roared into the night.

Nat- you doing okay out here?
Y/N- it's been a tough day
Nat- tell me about it
Y/N- I've told 17 families that their loved one won't be coming home ever, I know the pain they're feeling and it's horrible. They didn't deserve this
Nat- nobody has ever deserved to lose someone so I've got something for you

I looked at her, down on one knee.
Y/N- what are you doing?
Nat- please just listen to me okay?
Y/N- okay.

Y/N, I remember the day we met when you told me to sit my ass down and shut up. You intrigued me and from that moment on, I started to fall in love with you.
You've saved my life in so many ways and I can't even begin to tell what how I'd feel if we weren't together for the rest of our lives.
I messed up so much the day I left you because I knew I loved you and I was scared. Scared that you would find a reason to hate me or that one day you'd wake up not loving me anymore. Now we have a family together and I couldn't wish for anything more.
I love you more than anything in the world and I didn't know it was possible, we've done so much together and I know we are only going to get better from here.
So Y/N Clarke, will you marry me?
