Part 16

Maria POV-
Y/N had been in surgery for 7 hours now and there was no news from the doctors. In my head, I couldn't tell if that meant it was good news or bad.

Nat had fallen asleep due to exhaustion, her body had been through a lot and she was lucky that she got away with minimal damage.
Steve had broken a couple ribs as well as his ankle but due to the serum in his blood, he'd heal in a week or so rather than months.
Other avengers came in and out of Nat's room asking if there had been any news yet and I didn't want to speak to them.
I wanted to scream and to cry but I knew I couldn't, I had to stay strong for Y/N, she needed me right now and I was here for her. I had to make the right decisions when the time came.

It was approaching 10 hours now and the doctors finally came to see me
Maria- how is she?
I could see the pain all over their faces and knew something was wrong
Dr Walker- Y/N suffered a lot of damage to her organs, the bullets were shot at close range so did a lot more damage than usual. Being in cold water set in place hyperthermia but did help to keep her wounds from getting worse.
Maria- what does this mean?
Dr Walker- we need to have a conversation about her care, it will be a miracle if she survives the night. I am so sorry Miss Hill

Tears fell down my face as I collapsed to the floor, Tony came running over and wrapped his arms around me
Tony- what's wrong?
My breath kept getting caught in my throat as I tried to speak, he held me tighter
Tony- it's okay, just breathe
I finally catch my breath and look at Tony
Maria- the doctor said it would be a miracle for her to survive the night, they need to talk care plans with me
Tony- let's do it together, I'll talk through anything you need and be a shoulder for you
Maria- Thank you Tony

Tony was usually an asshole but he could be one of the best people when someone he cared about was hurt. We discussed every possible care plan and I knew Y/N's wishes before hand.
Dr Walker- so to confirm, you'd like Y/N to be treated fully and kept on the ventilator. Then we will potentially revise these plans after 14 days?
Maria- that's correct
Dr Walker- I think that's a good decision, Y/N should be out of recovery and in her room, I can take you to see her

I followed the Doctor to Y/N's room and stopped outside the door
Dr Walker- this is going to be hard for you to see but she needs someone, talk to her as much as you can.
He opens the door and I walk in, she looks fragile. Tubes are helping her breathe as well as wires connected all over her body.
Sitting in the chair next to her, I gently take her hand in mine and tears continue to roll down my face

Maria- I don't know if you can hear me Y/N but you are doing so well. You are fighting this battle better than anyone of us could and I know you will win it. Remember when we were younger and we always used to say how our future would look, we talked about saving lives and being hero's. That's exactly what you have become, you saved Nat and Steve today and because of you they are okay and safe.
God this is harder than I thought but Y/N, I cannot lose you, you are my best friend and if you leave me then I don't know what I'll do.
Tony- that was beautiful, she's lucky to have you
Maria- come in, I'm sure she'd be happy to see you
Tony- I'm pretty sure she hates me but I'm here and always will be.
Maria- she doesn't hate you, she thinks you're cocky

We both laugh and keep talking. I made everyone else wait because I needed time with Y/N.
Maria- we should let the others see her
Tony- there's only one person who needs to see her right now and that's Nat. I'll see if she's able to come here

Tony disappears out of the door and I look back at Y/N. I didn't recognise her anymore, she was pale and her body weaker than I'd ever seen before.

Nat POV-
Tony strolled into my room to see I was awake. Bruce was sat by my side but we weren't talking, I couldn't stop thinking if Y/N was okay
Nat- hey Tony
Tony- she's out of surgery but it doesn't look good, you should see her now before it's too late.
I could feel my eyes glazing over and I chocked down the tears. Bruce helped me into a wheelchair and Tony took me to her room.

Shock grew all over my face as I saw all the tubes and wires. I had run through as many bad scenarios in my head but this was worse than I ever imagined.
Maria- come sit with her, talk to her about anything Nat, she'd be happy you're here. I need to update Fury, he's going to want to see her
Maria leaves the room and it's just me and Y/N, I didn't know what to say but I just took her hand and then a deep breath.

Nat- The day I meet you was unforgettable, that bossy attitude of yours when you walked into the room which slowly melted as I started to get to know you. You put your barriers up high but allowed me to break them down, I knew you were special when I got the blindfold out and you showed your flirtatious side, you didn't realise how much I liked you at that point. It's taken me till now to realise that I don't just like you Y/N but I love you...
