Chapter 45

JJs POV

Kenna and I were on our way to the office now, usually after a case where we don't catch the unsub immediately and have to work on it for a few months is always good to either go see the family or have them come in, closure is what they call it, Kenna was playing with the radio changing the station ever minute

"Can you leave it on one?" I chuckle

"Is it bad I'm excited they caught the guy? I mean I know it doesn't change anything but it's good to know he isn't out there running around free and able to hurt anyone else" Kenna sighs

"It's not bad at all, I completely agree with you" I say and she smiles and yawns

"Don't tell me you're already tired" I smile

"I had a long day" she says

"You're up till 12 most nights, it's barely 8 and you're tired?" I say

"Mmhm" she smiles and I shake my head,

We pulled into the parking lot of the building and Derek came out to let us in like he did every other time

"Thank you Derek" I say and give him a hug

"Agent Jareau, I'm glad you could make it in" Hotch says, he still refuses to call me JJ or Jennifer most of the time, it's always Agent Jareau even though I'm not an agent anymore

"I was happy to get the call" I say

"Hope we didn't interrupt" he says motioning towards our outfits

"Oh no, just dinner at Grants" I say and Kenna blushes

"Dinner with the parents? Sounds like that is getting serious" Pen says walking over to me to give me a hug

"Don't remind me" I chuckle

"Agent Hotchner" Strauss says coming into the pull pen

"Ma'am" he replies and walks with her

"What was that about?" I ask

"Well, we weren't supposed to have anything to do with finding Emily's killer. She said let the other agency's handle it and we'll be in for it if she finds out we didn't obey her orders.... mostly it was Interpol. They decided to let us help since we wouldn't stop bugging them" he tells me and I nod. Strauss was always kind of like that. She did come to the funeral though,

"Where is he?" Kenna asked

"He's in an Interrogation room waiting to be transported," Derek tells her

"Can I see him?" She ask and I turn towards her

"Absolutely not" I say

"Momma please" she says and I shake my head

"No Makenna" I tell her

"Why?" She ask and everyone is looking at us. No way am I letting her see him. She's had enough trauma for a lifetime

"Because I said so, you're not seeing him" I say a little more firmly this time and she rolls her eyes and walks away.

"What's his sentence?" I ask

"He should get death row, he was only caught because he started a killing spree In Mexico" he says and I nod

"Maybe you should let her see him" he whispers so only I could hear while everyone else was distracted

"Derek I love you, but I think she has been traumatized enough and I don't want this to add on to it " I say and he nods and Hotch comes back out

"Well?" Rossi says looking up at him

"She's pissed" he says

"She says she has to consult the people above her and they will deal with our disobedience" he says and everyone rolls their eyes

"Sometimes it's a good thing I'm not here anymore" I chuckle and look around for Kenna, she's not where she was 5 minutes ago

"Where the hell is she" I sigh and start walking back one of the hallways

"Makenna Grace!" I scold when I see her standing outside one of the doors and she jumps

"Momma" " she sighs and looks at me

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" I ask her

"Please momma I just want to see him" she says and I sigh

"Why?"

"I-I don't know I just do, I need to, he took something from me and I want to see him" she says and wiped her eyes

"Makenna.... " I sigh and pull her into me and she wraps her arms around me

"I'll think about it, but for now the answer is no" I say and she sighs,

The guy is going to enjoy seeing her upset about it and knowing he did more damage to Emily's family, she doesn't know that but we do which is why I don't even know why Derek suggested it, And we walked back to everyone,

We talked a little more before Derek pulled me aside

"He's getting moved in 10 minutes, if you're going to let her see him you have to do it now" he tells me

"It can give her closure, just put her behind the glass and he won't know" he says, he's right

"Kenna" I say and she walks over to me and I take her hand

"Come on" I say and we walk down and around everyone to the room,

"Are you sure?" I ask and she nods

"He can't see you" I say and she nods and we walk into the room together and he is sitting on the other side of the glass in handcuffs sitting at the table with his head down,

She walks up to the window and looks over the guy,

"Why?" She ask me

"Why what?" I ask

"Why did he kill her?" She ask, for the first time

"She put him in prison, he got out and wanted revenge" I tell her

"Oh" she says and backs up into me

"Are you okay?" I ask her and she nods

"Yea, I'm okay" she says and we just stand there for a while, processing it all,

"Thank you" she says

"You're welcome , I'm sorry I was so hard on you earlier" I tell her

"It's okay," she smiles and we watch as other agents come and take him away,

"You ready to head home?" I ask her

"Yea" she says and we walk out and I grab my things as we go to head home

"JJ wait" Hotch says and I turn around

"Everyone up here" he says and we all look around then follow him upstairs into the conference room
