Chapter 52

Grants POV

When I finished with my professor I texted Kenna and headed back to my dorm,

When I walked in and didn't see her on my bed I yelled for her to see if she was in there but when I didn't get a reply I went to check the bathroom. The door was open and she was laying on the ground

"Makenna! Oh my god! Are you okay? Look at me" I yell out frantically bending down on the floor next to her gently shaking her body

"Makenna! Please, do something, say something" I cry out and put my head on her chest to listen for a heart beat. Nothing

I quickly took out my phone and called for an ambulance and started to preform CPR to the best of my abilities until they got there.

It took them 4 minutes to get to my dorm and the entire time I did not stop with Makenna

"Son I need you to step away" they say and pull me off of her as they check her over and lift her onto a stretcher

"What happened?" One of them ask me while the other was continuing what I was doing as we were sitting in the back of an ambulance

"I-I-I don't know, I came back from class and she was on the ground" I say trying to catch my breath

"Okay, I need you to breathe" she tells me and I nod calming Myself down

"Does she have a history with drugs?" She ask me

"What? No, she wants to be a medical examiner she aces her classes she is the daughter of 2 FBI agents. She needs to be okay" I say and she nods writing something down

"Do her parents know?" She ask me

"No! I called you guys and I haven't had time to call her mom... I'll do it when we get to the hospital.. please tell me she is going to be okay" I say and she looks over at me uneasy

"We're going to do everything we can" she tells me

JJs POV

Emily and I were at the house now watching some television and she was getting ready to go meet Derek when I got a call from Grant

"Hello?"

"JJ, somethings happend to Kenna and -and were at the hospital"

"What!? What do you mean something happend? What hospital?"

He tells me what hospital they were at and Emily and I were in the car going 80 the entire way there,

When we finally got to the hospital after what took what feels like forever Grant was in the waiting room with tear stained cheeks

"Grant" I sigh seeing him and he stands up and gives me a hug

"I'll be back" I tell him and Emily and I walk to the nurses station

"We need to know about our daughter, Makenna Prentiss. She came in on an ambulance with her boyfriend" I say and she looks up

"The doctors are with her now, they will come update you as soon as they can" she tells me

"Is she okay? Just please tell me she's okay" I ask

"I'm sorry, the doctor should be out soon" she tells me

"She's my daughter! Why can't you just tell me what's going on!" I exclaim

"Jayje" I heard behind me and see pen standing there with open arms and I walk over to her and give her a hug

"Oh love bug, she's going to be okay" she says and I nod as we sit down in the waiting room,

Grants parents came and sat with him

An hour later the doctor finally comes out to us

"Mrs.Prentiss?" He says and Emily and I both stand up

"We are her moms" Emily explains and he nods

"Okay, why don't we go somewhere more private to talk?" He says and Emily grabs my hand. That is exactly what they told me when Emily "died"

"Well be back" I say to pen and Grant and they both nod as we follow the doctor into a room

"Okay, so your daughter came into the hospital with what we expected to be an overdose," he says

"She- she took some Oxy about 5 months ago but hadn't touched it since" I explain

"Well, unfortunately she had a very high intake of it. Which shows she did overdose on it. When paramedics got to her she was unresponsive and not breathing but thanks to her boyfriend who did CPR until they arrived kept her blood and oxygen flowing.

When we got her in here and hooked up to oxygen, our neurologist examined her and it looks like she might have some brain damage from lack of oxygen. Even though the CPR kept her from death at the time her body still wasn't getting what it needed. Now she is in a room and is in a medical induced coma until her body can heal for a little. This might take hours, days, weeks we really don't know. The next few hours will be critical in her survival" he tells us and i wipe my eyes and squeeze Emily's hand

"Wait- are you saying this is an accidental overdose or she knew what she was doing?" I ask

"It's hard to say... but with the amount in her system... I would say it was intended" he says and Emily squeezes my hand

"Can we see her?" Emily ask and he nods and brings us back to her room,

She is hooked to a machine helping her breath and IVs everywhere,

"Kenna" I say letting out a shakes breath and sitting down next to her bed while Emily is on the other side

"I'll let you have some alone time" the doctor says and leaves us

"If I would have done more the first time this wouldn't have happened, I could have stopped this" I say holding Kenna's hand

"It's all my fault.... if I didn't have to go away she would have never gotten into the drugs" Emily says

"It's not your fault Emily, " I say

"Yes it is Jennifer, my 16 year old daughter just tried to kill herself! It's my fault" Emily cries and I get up and sit down with her

"No, and you will not be saying that. She will be fine. She's going to wake up and get better and we will go home and be a family" I say holding her hand and Kennas

"I need to step outside" she says and leaves me alone

"Hey, I need you to wake up, we're not mad I promise but please Makenna wake up. Mom and I need you to get better. We can't do this without you. I can't do this without you" I say and kiss her head

"I'll be right back" I say even if she can't hear me and I walked out to the waiting room with Emily so we could update everyone,

We got out there and the rest of the team had showed up. No matter how upset they are at Emily. We are a family and family shows up,

Emily tells the team what's going on while I go over and sit with Grant and his parents to explain it

"She was taking drugs?" He ask me

"When she thought Emily had died she did.... but she got clean and today she took too many" I say and he looks down

"I should have known, I should have been there for her I could have saved her" he cries and I take his hand while his mom had her hand on his back

"You did, she is alive because of you. The doctor said you doing CPR saved her life." I say and he looks up

"Really?" He says and I nod

"Really. Now we just have to wait for her to wake up" I sigh and lean back into my chair
