Today is Meredith's first day back to her work and I'm excited to have her back at work. After her surgery, I would spend the night in Meredith's room until she was cleared to go home, then I would stay over at Mer's house to take care of her. I drive to the hospital and bolt to the locker room. I smile at all my friends and I smile even bigger when I see Meredith.

Delilah: hey!
Meredith: hey.
Delilah: how do you feel today? Does anything hurt still? Let me know if anything hurts. Do you need anything? At any point today you need anything, just say the word and I got it.

Meredith chuckles at me then takes my shoulders.

Meredith: you're talking at a million miles a second. Calm down.
Delilah: I just want to make sure you're okay.

As Meredith's best friend, it's my responsibility to make sure she's okay. Whatever she needs, I'm there.

Meredith: I'm fine Del. You sticking around in the house taking care of me was enough. I feel good.
Delilah: okay. Just don't put too much pressure on yourself today. And anything you need today, I got you. Just say the word and I got whatever you need.

Meredith smiles at me and wraps her arm around me.

Delilah: so, what were we talking about?
Cristina: we're talking about how Meredith hasn't told your dad that she dumped the vet.
George: I'm telling you, she's scared.
Delilah: guys, she doesn't have to tell him right now. Believe me, he has a lot of stress going on in his life right now. The only thing keeping him the slightest bit sane right now is yours truly. Mer can tell him whenever she wants.

I see Dr. Bailey come into the locker room.

Bailey: M&M in ten minutes people.
Alex: we get to go to the M&M?
George: even if we haven't finished our rounds?
Bailey: even if. I want all of you at the M&M today.
Alex: yes!

We start walking out of the locker room.

Bailey: people die in this hospital. Once a month, we gather to discuss how our actions as physicians contributed to the deaths. This is a serious exercise.
Cristina: boys, you get good seats. The three of us will get snacks.
Alex: yeah.

Mer, Cris and I run off to the vending machine to get snacks.

Cristina: I love M&M's. We get to see our bosses get kicked in the teeth instead of us.

As I'm getting my snacks, I start thinking about patients that have died in the last month. Suddenly, a certain patient comes to mind and my heart drops into my stomach.

Delilah: guys, we talk about patients who died. Patients whose death could have been avoidable. Deaths that we caused.
Cristina: your point baby Shepherd?
Delilah: guys... they might bring Denny up.
Meredith: no way. They won't... right? They won't. They totally won't.
Cristina: yeah, they won't.
Delilah: okay... yeah, they won't.

We grab our snacks then we walk to the M&M. I toss a snack to George then one to Alex then George takes a seat next to me as he rants about what happened with Callie.

Delilah: didn't you apologize George?
George: I did. I have. I'm done. I am not apologizing anymore. I'm enjoying life. I'm loving the M&M.
Webber: okay people, let's begin. Patient #34986 died last month from complications following a heart transplant. Dr. Burke will present.

My heart drops when I realize the patient number. I was right.

Alex: you guys, patient #34986...
Delilah: was Denny...
Cristina: eight million dollars. Eight million could get us on a plane to somewhere far far away.
Delilah: damn it. The one time I was actually wanting to be wrong.
Burke: cause of death was an embolus that dislodged from the suture line and caused a CVA with brain stem herniation.
