Warnings: Politics, Anti-Trump, Swearing, Lots of Celebrating.

The last few days had been tense to say the least, I'd barely done any work and the news was constantly running in the background. We knew it was going to take time with the influx of mail in ballots but that didn't mean we didn't find the last few days any less stressful.

After the first day of watching the map hoping to see states turn blue, me and chris took it upon ourselves to distract ourselves so we weren't staring at the TV all day.

We'd done plenty of things, like baking, cleaned the entire house top to bottom. The house had never looked so clean. Gave dodger a bath, which ultimately ended up with all of us having a bath. However none of them stopped us from dropping everything whenever we heard a notification from our phones to see if there was updates.

The outlook was looking good though, slowly more and more states turned blue and Biden was looking like the favourite to win. We wouldn't not let ourselves celebrate just yet, not until that magical number of 270 was hit.

"hey I'm gonna take dodger out to the woods, wanna join?" chris asks leaning over the back of the couch and kissing my shoulder.

I shake my head not taking my eyes off the TV screen "no I'm good babe, my leg is still sore from playing just dance on the wii" I tell him making him chuckle.

"well rest up, how are things looking?" he asks nodding over to the TV.

I sigh looking up at him "not much has changed, Nevada, Georgia and Pennsylvania are still counting, did you see what trump just tweeted?" I ask making him roll his eyes.

"unfortunately, god what will it take for that Cheeto dust covered man to realise he's losing" chris sighs shaking his head "pisses me off" he grumbles.

I reach up to cup his check and stroke it calmingly "calm down, hopefully it will be over soon, now go enjoy your walk" I tell him.

He smiles back down at me "will do see you in about an hour" he smiles giving me a quick kiss before heading out of the house, dodger right on his heels.

After about 40 minutes of watching nothing change, I get up and decide to raid the kitchen in search of a snack. I make up some dips and grab some chips and start walking back to the living room, as I set everything down on the coffee table I hear the words we'd been waiting for.

'Pennsylvania has just been called, Joe Biden is now President Elect' the news broadcaster announces.

My jaw drops to the floor and I can't actually believe it. I hear my phone vibrate and ring as everyone I knew was texting and calling to share the news. I grab it and instantly try to call chris, when it doesn't go through I curse knowing he probably had no signal and has no clue what has just happened.

I see my mom ringing me and I pick up the phone to hear her screaming with joy down the line, I couldn't help but scream back laughing.

"he's done it, Oh my god its all over, trump is no more!" my mom cries the joy evident in her voice.

"I can't believe it, I'm speechless I can't describe how happy I am right now" I say wiping away the tears of joy.

"I bet chris is partying right now" my mom laughs.

"I don't think he knows! He took dodger out for a walk in the woods where there's barely any service" I tell her making her laugh even more.

Once I get off the phone with my mom my phone continues to ring and I continue to talk and celebrate with my friends and family.

15 minutes later I'm stilly crying with joy when I hear the front door open. Chris walks into the living room face full of concern as to why I'm crying.

"babe what's happened?" he asks worriedly, I point over to the muted TV where the headlines still read that Biden had won.

I watch as he erupts into cheers jumping up and down with joy, dodger barking along excitedly. I end the call I was currently on and run over to hug chris tightly, he wraps his arms around me and spins around both of us laughing loudly.

"I don't believe it, when did it happen?" he asks hands on his head still trying to register the news.

"about 20 minutes ago, I tried to call you but couldn't get through" I tell him.

He shakes his head in disbelief, the look of a child who was told they were going to Disneyworld still plastered on his face.

"he gone, he lost the orange fucker is gone" chris laughs pumping his fist up into the air.

"it's the first female Vice president too!" I point out smiling so much it hurt.

"oh my god yeah, oh babe I'm so happy" he smiles pulling me into another tight hug.

We spend the rest of the day celebrating and calling family and friends, we had music blaring and by the evening we were just sway along to the music in each other's arms.

"the war isn't over yet" chris sighs resting his chin on top of my head, I sigh deeply knowing America still had a lot of healing and changing to do.

"I know, but it's a step in the right direction, we have a leader now who will help end this pandemic, heal racial tensions and make America what its supposed to be again, an land united, not divided" I say resting my head against his chest, the thumbing of his heart calming me like it always does.

"couldn't have said it better myself" he smiles kissing the top of my head.

"missed" I smirk looking up at him.

He laughs tilting his head back before leaning down and capturing my lips in mine.
