When you woke up this morning you weren't expecting to find a missed called. Especially not from him. You also weren't expecting him to leave a message.

All morning you flipped back and forth trying to decide whether you should listen to it or not. He hadn't spoken to you in nearly a year and now he was suddenly leaving you messages in the middle of the night.

You told yourself that he was probably drunk, being back home for the holidays messing with his brain. Making him finally reach out after disappearing off the face of the planet.

However, no matter how much you told yourself to ignore it, there was always that little voice in your head. The one that told you to just listen to it, to maybe indulge in the scenarios running through your head. The one that told you that you missed him.

Because you did. You really did. No matter how much he hurt you. You missed him.

You eventually conceded. Grabbing yourself a glass of wine for good measure. Sitting yourself on the couch wrapping a blanket around you. You set your phone down on the coffee table and turn on the speaker. Taking a large gulp of wine as you hit play.

"Hey, it's Chris, I just wanted to say I'm in town and was wondering if you wanted to meet up. I know I left things in a weird place last year and I'm sorry for that but if it's the same to you it's the same to me. I guess what I'm trying to say that the road not taken looks real good right now, that doesn't make sense I'm sorry. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I meant what I said on new year's and if you'd give me a chance to explain then I'd love to. I'm staying at my parent's house so just swing by whenever you want. I miss you so much dot, your smile, sleeping in half the day, everything. I'll see you soon hopefully"

You felt sick all of sudden, remembering the night he mentioned painfully clearly. The night you had tried to forget and explain away. The last time you had seen chris.

You sniffed back your tears determined not to cry. You had already spent enough nights crying over it already. You had wished that it was some stupid drunk message, a butt dial, anything else.

Despite knowing better, you hit replay. You mind getting stuck on the sentence 'I meant what I said on new years' because if that was true he wouldn't have done what he did.

The more you thought about it the more you drank and the more you wanted to hear what he had to say. So before you could stop yourself you had picked up your phone and texted him.

'Let's talk'

He responded almost immediately asking you for a place and time. You settled on tomorrow, meeting him at Lisa's house. Once it was all sorted you dropped your phone down on the table before downing another glass of wine.

When you knocked on the door the next morning you were relieved that it was Lisa that opened the door.

"Oh (Y/N) it's so good to see you!" She smiles instantly enveloping you in a warm hug.

"Yeah, it's been a while, is um Chris in?" You ask her rocking back and forth nervously.

"Gosh I feel like I've fallen through a wormhole back to when you two were kids" she laughs as she ushers you inside.

"Chris! (Y/N)'s here!" She calls up the stairs.

You felt your breath hitch as he appeared at the top of the stairs, jogging down them like he always used to when you were younger. Except this time, he had dodger hot on his heels.
