Warnings: Fluff!
The house was peaceful, cosy and warm as you sat at the kitchen island, chin resting in your palm as you smiled to yourself. The last couple of months had been hectic but you wouldn't change a thing.
After nearly two years of dating in private, Chris' team had confirmed that he was in a relationship with you. You'd waited so long for the time to be right because you were just an ordinary girl who'd met him one night at an up-and-coming band's gig. And because everything was just perfect, telling the world just gave you more freedom to take that next step.
You look down at the small pebble you were holding, the one souvenir from your road trip down to your home coastal town last July. It had been the perfect place to hide away, you had stretches of beaches all to yourself.
You had always been a bit of a nature buff, so your favourite was of course the beach with all the rock pools. You'd spent hours finding all the different kinds of creatures, showing them off to Chris and telling him all the facts you knew about them. He'd smiled at you the entire time, wrapping his arm around you and kissing your cheek.
"God what a mind" he had remarked.
You knew there was going to be a backlash to you dating Chris, that people would find any reason to hate you, digging through anything piece of information they could find. Try and tell you that you weren't deserving and implore you should be more of this, and less of that. But Chris had been there, supporting you, protecting you in the moments when you'd been just too soft for all of it.
The people talked their talk, got it off their chests. And eventually less and less ended up on Chris' desk. There were still people who said the end was coming, but you paid them no attention.
Looking back down at your pebble that had been worn by the waves into a heart shape, you turned your left hand over smiling at the small but elegant rock of a completely different kind on your finger. The sound of Chris humming as he cooked breakfast had you looking back up, your smile widening as you watched him, the little sway of his hips to whatever song was stuck in his head.
It was moments like this that made everything worth it. While the world was out there pushing and shoving, you'd always run straight home to him. This was all you ever wanted.
As Chris turned around to plate up, his eyes met yours, a warm smile playing on his lips. He grabs your plate, walking around the island to place it down in front of you. His arm snakes around your waist as he leans down to press a kiss to your bare shoulder.
"What's got you smiling like that" he whispers in your ear.
You turn your head to look at him, your nose gently brushing against his "nothing" you whisper back "just sweet nothings"
