A/N: For once you lot are getting the fic first! by like an hour but still..

Warnings: Angst... sorry

You and Chris had been dating for just under a year now and it was incredible. You had been hesitant at first, due to the potential media scrutiny and the fact that you were in your early twenties.

But Chris settled every nerve you had. The relationship was kept incredibly private, the world only seeing the small glimpses you shared. You also never felt like there was a massive age gap. Allowing your heart to take lead instead of your brain.

However when the pair of you had returned home from visiting your older sister, who'd just had a baby, your brain was back in charge. Watching Chris hold the little baby girl had your heart melting. He was a natural and you knew he was going to be the perfect dad. It was the role he was born to play, he was just missing a child of his own.

"Hey you okay? You've been quiet all evening?" Chris asks gently rubbing your shoulder pulling you from your rabbit hole.

"Hm? Oh just thinking that's all" you mutter waving it off.

"What about? Because it seems to be troubling you" he points out and you have to inwardly curse at his ability to read you like an open book.

"The future" You admit with a deep sigh.

"Our future?" He asks and you have to close your eyes for a moment to compose yourself.

"Sweetheart?" Chris asks and you could hear the concern and panic in his voice.

"Chris I love you, so, so, so much" you start turning on the couch to face him.

"I love you too, more than anything in the world" Chris says reaching out to take and squeeze your hands.

"Seeing you today with the baby it just reminded me of how much you deserve and want that life" you say looking down at your conjoined hands.

"And I want that for you too, even if it means you don't have it with me" you say quietly unable look him in the eye out of fear of seeing how much pain you were causing.

"Darlin' .... What... what are you talking about" Chris asks nervously.

"I don't want to hold you back, I don't want to be the reason you don't get your family you want" you explain shaking your head as you fought back the tears.

"I-I thought you wanted that too... to get married and-and have kids" Chris stutters squeezing your hand tightly.

"I do-" you sigh.

"Then where is all this coming from?" Chris interrupts.

"I don't want that for a good few years, Chris I'm only in my early twenties, I wanna go out, explore the world, get more established in my career first" you explain finally looking at him watching as his panicked eyes searched yours.

"I don't see myself having kids until I'm 30 at least, and it's unfair on you to make you wait that long" you sigh shaking your head.

"Especially since there might be someone out there who's ready for that now" you tell him.

"But I don't want them, I want you" Chris argues, and you can see the tears collecting in his eyes.

"But do you really want to wait until you're 46 to have kids" you sigh and silence falls in the room.

You watch as Chris' mind works, all your words sinking in. In truth you hated it because you were the sole reason for his pain.

"I love you Chris, so so much and I would love to marry you and have a family with you" you say getting him to look back at you.

"Then why are you saying all this?" He asks quietly.

"Because I want you to think about it, I don't want you to waste anymore time if it stops you from getting what you want" you tell him squeezing his hand.

"I don't need to think- I- I want you" Chris mutters.

"No Chris please, please think about it, because if this- we're gonna continue I need to know you're 100% without a doubt ready and okay to wait for however long" you press driving your point home.

"I'm gonna go back to my place and let you think it over, take as long as you need, but please just think it through properly, talk to your mom and family about it, make sure whatever you decide is 100% what you want, and remember that no matter what I will always love you" you say as you stand up from the couch.

You kiss the top of his head before stepping away. His hand falling out of yours. You didn't want to leave but you knew this was the right thing. Chris did always say you were too mature for your age. He probably didn't expect that to come back and haunt him. Walking to the door you took a deep breath hoping this wasn't a goodbye.
