Soulmates. Many didn't believe in them, it was too hard for them to comprehend that there was the perfect person out there for them.
Those who did believe in soulmates had various different theories about them. That every beauty mark on your skin was from where you past soulmate kissed you. Or that there was invisible words etched in your skin of the first words your soulmate would say to you.
You had your own theory. You liked the idea that soulmates were created by fearful gods. Gods that had created man to have 2 heads, 4 arms and 4
Legs but only 1 heart. The gods feared these creatures they created, thinking they were too powerful so to weaken them, they split them in half. Cursing man to walk around the earth looking for the other half of their heart.
You believed that you had the same soulmate in every life you lived and that once you proclaimed you love, you would be able to see moments with your love from your past lives.
You believed there was a magnetic connection that drew you to your soulmate. One that you wouldn't necessarily notice until you laid eyes on them. You believed this because it damn well nearly got you killed.
The streets of New York were in chaos, aliens falling from the sky. Yeah you heard that correctly. Aliens. You were running outside of a cafe desperate to find shelter when you saw him. The man dressed in Red, White and Blue, carrying a circular shield. The world seemed to stop as you watched him fight off the aliens that were attacking your city. When he turned to face you, your eyes met his and you could feel the air being sucked from your lungs. The two of you stood still, staring at each other from across the street, unaware of the civilians running around you.
You only returned to reality when you literally got the air knocked out of you. You felt something slam into you pushing you to the floor. When you looked up you could see the hideous face of an alien a mere inches from your face. You started kicking and screaming desperately trying to push this alien off of you.
Suddenly the alien was gone, the last you saw was it flying through the sky screaming before a circular shield hit it for good measure. You then saw your saviour come into view and oh my god did he look even better close up. He helps you sit up and instantly starts checking you for injuries.
"Ma'am are you okay?" He asks his eyes finally settling on your, allowing you to see the flecks of green in his bright blue eyes.
"Yeah, im- im fine thank you" you stutter your brain turning to mush from all the attention you were getting from this greek god of a man.
"Good, you need to get to shelter, the subway is a good option" he tells you offering his hand to help you to your feet.
"Thank you" you breath out still not quite beliving the situation you were in.
You go to turn to leave, going toward the nearest subway station like he said when his hand grabs yours once more.
"Wait, what's your name?" He asks quickly, he almost looked flustered.
"(Y/N), (Y/N) (Y/L/N)" you tell him and he smiles when he hears your name.
"Stay safe (Y/N), i hope to see you in the future" he says with the most charming smile ever.
"Stay safe too" you tell him, when you feel heat rising to your cheeks you quickly turn to run off to shelter.
You didn't expect to see your saviour again. You thought you'd replay the moment you saw him over and over again for eternity. You didn't expect him to even remember you, one civilian amongst hundreds.
You definitely didn't expect him to be on your door step, a bunch of flowers in hand. You didn't initially recognise him out of his suit and helmet, but when you saw his eyes you knew exactly who it was. You'd recognise his eyes anywhere, even in a crowd of thousands you would know those eyes.
