Maybe things would have been different if the situation is not like this.

Watching him walk from the establishment they once called home. Under the roof where they slept for months, white and cold, Lee Eunhyuk stood in the side, waiting for Cha Hyunsoo's shadow to vanish.

The wind blew from the south, yet Lee Eunhyuk still stood in the said space. Staring at the raven haired human-monster who's currently in the middle of the chaos with his arms up in the air. He watched as Hyunsu gets taken away. He watched as they cuff him and surround him with guns then lock him in an armoured vehicle.

Eunhyuk did not feel anything.

Normal people would feel anger, sadness and bitterness. But Lee Eunhyuk did not feel any of those. Eunhyuk's eyes landed on his hands, they looked cold, they were shivering. He silently walked away from the scene and made his way to the camera room.

This is the path Cha Hyunsu chose. Eunhyuk knows the line he shouldn't cross. Accept and move on. That's what they promised if one of them has to die or go. So, even if he resent his choice, what else can he do to make Hyunsu stay? Hyunsu already made up his mind since day one. Being the only concious monster in their group, Cha Hyunsu knows he had to sacrifice himself one way or another. It's the matter of 'when'.

They already drew a line, yet Eunhyuk's chest still feels heavy. A huge contradiction to what his head is saying.

Why does it hurt?

His mind kept replaying his last moments with Hyunsu. His lifeless blank face and stoic expression, uttering words Eunhyuk wanted to hear. When Hyunsu said yes and placed a promise in his words, Eunhyuk can't help but to wonder, was it genuinely the answer or did he answer in that way to comfort him? He should have known Hyunsu from top to bottom yet when Hyunsu lost himself from the recent rampage, the Hyunsu, Eunhyuk knew vanished in a snap. Did he remember him or was he being respectful towards their loss and the situation? Eunhyuk couldn't help but wonder if Hyunsu made a blooming promise or an empty one, but then, would it even matter if neither is the answer?

Eunhyuk should stop thinking like this.

Stay

Blood. His nose kept releasing blood. He ran to the restroom and washed the blood off his face.

When he looked up to see his reflection, Eunhyuk saw it. Lurking behind his back, whispering in his ears.

The monster is consuming him.

Eunhyuk took a deep breath and stared at the murky water in the sink. He saw a distorted reflection of himself on the water. Tears started forming on his eyes.

After a year of holding it, Lee Eunhyuk sobbed like there's no tomorrow.

So, this is it.

This is his end.

In between his sobs, Eunhyuk surpressed a bitter chuckle.

The world is so fucking unfair. All Eunhyuk wanted was a normal life but this shitty world wont even give him that. He worked so hard, they went through alot. They survived but for what? For everything to fall down again. As soon as they finally reach the peak where they felt like they've regained their lives, there's always a storm waiting in the end of the line.

Why does it have to be them? Why does it have to be him?

Eunhyuk turned the faucet on and washed his face.

They didn't live like this at the beginning. They were normal until their parents died. All of their relatives became out of reach after the accident. Eunhyuk didn't blame anyone, he didn't suspect anyone. But in the bottom of his heart, he knew his parents were murdered. Yet logic fought his feelings, he shouldn't assume, he couldn't assume. He had no time to dwell in those affairs when he still has Eunyoo. She became the priority. Eunhyuk's priority. He did not care for anything else. Perhaps this is the karma for not investigating his parents' death. Back then, he always thought there's no use on digging into the past. Eunhyuk already assumed nothing will change. An apology? A sinister confession? Expenses? Justice wasn't served, but if he invest his time to make a living while studying for Eunyoo. Maybe, just maybe, Eunyoo will be the one who can bring Justice for them.

He worked 4 different jobs. He studied in the morning and go to work during afternoon till midnight. He didn't waste any time. He just did the things he can do.

Eunhyuk made his way back to the camera room.

He worked hard, tried hard and studied hard. He did it all at once.

But then, the outbreak of this virus came in.

He knew he had to adapt to this new world once again. He was back to square one. His priority didn't change. Instead of supporting Eunyoo financially, it changed to securing her safety. Everyday was a new challenge for all of them. Eunhyuk was ready to risk his life, their lives for his sister. He had to do everything, plan ahead and think strategically or else, they will all die. Nothing mattered anymore except his sister. But as time pass by, little by little, his objective began evolving or upgrading. Without noticing, his focus became securing the safety of many people as possible.

Greed.

He became too invested on saving these people, it turned him into a greedy man.

He sat down on his chair and looked at the surveillance monitor. He watched as every room they used crumbled. The ceiling was on the verge of collapsing yet Eunhyuk wore his headphones and brought out a cassette player.

A huge piece of debri landed on the bunker's door, covering it and securing the said place.

Eunhyuk saw this and smiled.

He reached his pocket to get a picture and turned on the music. He maxed out the volume of the song and held the last family picture they had when Eunyoo's parents were alive. Tears escaped his eyes. It was tears of joy. He knew there's no guarantee Eunyoo will stay alive after this. But he learned, Eunyoo can stand by her own. Eunyoo is stronger than he ever was. That's why, instead of protecting her like a caged pet, Eunhyuk finally decided to let her go. He trusts Eunyoo, he believes she can do it. He underestimated her for years. But now he realized it. He's such an idiot.

No wonder she hates him.

As the floor above him rumbled, Eunhyuk closed his eyes and his death followed next.

Darkness and silence welcomed him. He felt at peace.

Until

"Eunhyuk?"

Eunhyuk opened his eyes. He jolted from his position and looked around the area with absolute confusion.

"What the-"

"Eunhyuk, you've been asleep for 11 hours. Are you okay?" Eunhyuk stared at this unknown man "Wha-What?"

"What do you mean 'what', Dude, I've been trying to wake you up this morning but you weren't even moving. you slept like a corpse then the bell rang so I gave up on you" Eunhyuk has never been damn confused. What the fuck is this?

The stranger stared at his wrist watch and widen his eyes "Oh shit, Dr. Kang's gonna chop my head, I'll tell them you've caught some fever. I'm not done lecturing you, see you!"

Eunhyuk was stunned.

He was supposed to be dead. What the hell is this place? Did the monster consume him and he's still alive? Impossible. He was in the void earlier, he was sure he died.

Everything looks the same. The gadgets, the interior, looks straight from the 21st century no doubts on that. Is this the imaginary world the monster crafted to make him more greedy? However, Hyunsoo and him talked about this before. The monster distorts the memory you have, it doesn't create a new scenario but manipulates the series of events that happened to you with a different conclusion. It changes the situation in order for the person to be tempted to the voice. For the person to be desperate enough to trust a parasite. Maybe this is an evolved version of the bacterium? Fuck. Or perhaps, it was all just a dream?

Eunhyuk took a deep breath and stood up from the bed. He went to the sink and let the water run from the faucet. He splashed his face with water and rested his hands on the sides of the sink.

It felt real. Too real.

Where is he?
