Chapter 1: Heizou vs Ayato (aka mindless convo fr)
"Shikanoin Heizou at your service" It was a daunting request for a Tenryu commisioner to call in a police officer in his abode. Whether he's plotting an elaborate plan or not, a high person such as this man is not to be taken lightly.
"It's my pleasure to meet you... I suppose we are here to skip the pleasantries and get on with the topic, correct?" Of course. Kamisato Ayato is not one who likes to beat around the bush.
Heizou quite likes that.
"Yes, that would be suitable considering your busy schedule, Lord Kamisato" A wary look, his glare sharpened. But Heizou doesn't mind. He met other people with thicker masks, it's not new for him to encounter someone like Kamisato Ayato.
"Then I suppose you know the recent problem with the tri-commission these days" Ah yes, the continuous trials of betrayal yet they continue to also fail. Heizou is always behind their tail, however, every trail he follows goes cold. In pursuit of the truth, he kept trying and trying, but he always caught the criminals before they could go to their puppeteer "It's quite a mess, and you keep ruining my plans"
Oh
Right, it's not like he hasn't deduced the reason he was called in. Heizou didn't foresee Kamisato's involvement, but he did have an intuition someone from the tri-commission is running at the same speed as him. How shocking to learn it's the esteemed Kamisato Ayato instead of Kujou Sara.
"I apologize for being a hindrance, but you must know this is my job as the detective of the Tenryou Commission"
"I'm aware, which is why I need you to accept my commission" Truly bold, it feels unnerving to converse with the head of Kamisato family in this stance. Him ordering Heizou, it's definitely odd.
"I have my principles, Lord Kamisato. You and I have different judgments. Why would I willingly step back as a detective and let a political figure run the scene?" The plans Kamisato spoke off aren't laid down carefully. In other words, how will Heizou entrust Kamisato Ayato with this case if he isn't even willing to share this plan of his? "You take me as a shallow man, I don't just accept and follow, Lord Kamisato"
"I know that much, Doushin Shikanoin. It's best to leave it to me, I assure you, I'll grant you the results you want" There's an underlying hidden intention, Heizou can't trust his words fully. Especially, how will he grant what he wants?
"You truly underestimate me, Lord Kamisato. Results I want? What do you think I want, Lord Kamisato?"
With Ayato's back facing Heizou, the detective still couldn't tell what is Ayato striving for. The clues he laid down are vague and murky, it's impossible to know how and why is Ayato involved. Sure, it's about the tri-commission. But Heizou can't tell if Ayato is a comrade or an enemy. The Kamisato estate has been neutral for years, but their lord is someone unpredictable.
Heizou thinks he can trust Lord Kamisato, but would it be worth it to do so?
"Doushin Shikanoin, if you think I'm trying to harm the shogunate, you should know better"
Heizou's tense expression turned calm. He shouldn't really take this up to this extent "Well, you know what they say. Regret has its way of knocking people out when they are unguarded. I just don't want to rely on someone who has been doing questionable actions since the beginning"
"I understand your logic, but trust me" What a confiding statement. Heizou wants to laugh.
"A simple phrase such as 'trust me' sounds utterly reliable" Sarcasm transparent in tone "Lord Kamisato, I'll lend you my ear for the day, enlighten me why I should trust you"
