Title: Shelter
Idea: Yoshi has always been fond of kids. When he moved to Korea, his goal to be the best kindergarten teacher is on the go.But it wasn't easy. It was harder than he expected.
A particular kid always causes trouble in his class, So Yeri, a little girl who's feisty but smart. Yoshi talked to her multiple times, but to no avail, the kid always finds a way to outsmart Yoshi and brush him off.
He was gonna give up on her, not until he unexpectedly saw a scene he thinks he shouldn't have seen.
Yeri has always been fetched by his older brother, though they don't know each other's name, they would always nod at each other- a goodbye gesture whenever he leaves with Yeri.
Now in the park, trying not to get caught, Yoshi listens to their conversation and realizes a gruesome detail.
Yoshi learns Yeri's brother is getting abused by their parents.
It left Yoshi stunned for a while.
Finding himself staring at Yeri during class with a pained look, Yoshi couldn't keep it in.
So, when Yeri's brother fetched Yeri, Yoshi unconsciously tugged Yeri's brother's arm, stopping him from moving.
"Is something wrong?"
Looking directly at the guy's eyes, Yoshi examined his features. He saw a bruise near his lips. It was already healing however that was never a good sign.
Yoshi released his arm from his grip then forced himself to smile "Where did you get that bruise?" He cautiously asked, not wanting the kid to turn away.
Yeri's brother shot him a confused look "Uh, I fought with my classmates" he awkwardly confessed.
It's heart breaking for Yoshi to accept his response, but what else can he do?
Yoshi stuck his hand out "Kanemoto Yoshinori, Yeri's teacher"
The guy gave him a slight bow "S-So Junghwan" He reached out for Yoshi's hand then broke off the hand shake immediately.
Yoshi didn't want to let go of Junghwan without giving him anything, so he rummaged through his apron and pulled out a pen and a paper. He wrote his name and number then gave it to Junghwan.
"What is this for?" Junghwan muttered under his breath, though it was said in a way Yoshi shouldn't hear, sadly for him Yoshi has exceptional ears.
"If you need any help, don't hesitate to call me!" He beamed, Junghwan pursed his lips into a thin line then bobbed his head. "Thank you" his tone was flat, a little confused but Yoshi could feel a tinge of appreciation from his words.
"No worries!" He felt a little relieved Junghwan accepted it. His gaze went down, he crouched to level Yeri and gave her a warm smile "Take care of yourself and your brother, alright? Get home safely" he said before ruffling the kid's hair. Yeri removed his hand then scowled "I got it, Teacher" Yoshi chuckled at her response.
Yoshi soon stood up and waved both of them goodbye.
.
Junghwan played with the paper on his hand for a while. He did a bit of thinking, he clicked his tongue then threw it away.
Yeri witnessed it, she quickly retrieved the paper when his brother left the kitchen.
.
"Yeri! Do you want some of these?" Yoshi showed Yeri two kinds of ice creams.
It's currently break time, Yoshi, being a nosy person he is, approached Yeri without any second thoughts. Yeri nodded and picked the strawberry flavored one. Yoshi ate the one she left.
