- im self reflecting, IM A FAILURE
Let's pretend Jake isn't a writer, instead imagine him as.. a... k-drama main lead? No, they don't do rated 18 in k-dramas so maybe... a porno lead? No, that's a bit weird why would he want that? Well he kinda does but not in the sense of indulging pleasure it's just that, he ran into some kind of a problem.
A huge problem.
"If you can't write sex scenes then why are you here in the pocketbook section?!" His boss did make sense, what is he doing in this genre if he can't write a smut scene? Well, Jake didn't go into the lion's den with nothing in his hand. Just like how he does in job interviews, he prepared the answers beforehand. This gave him a bit of an ego boost until...
"I wanted to write something beautiful like the notebook!" within a second, his boss snarky expression welcomed him, with pure contempt
"Shim Jaeyun-sshi, this isn't a laughing matter, your fans have been waiting for your work for 2 years, what are you doing?" Jake is aware, but... it's hard to write outside his comfort zone, he wants to believe love is not just all about sex and love at first sight. It's more than that. It might sound naive and innocent, but he really wants to just push through the idea that love can be anything as long as you enjoy each other's company.
He tried explaining it to his boss but "So, you think alot of people think sex is love?"
"Maybe?" He sounded unsure himself, Jake feels so low, he knows love... is difficult and it's just that- he isn't ready to face that part yet. Perhaps it's because, he doesn't know what's going on with love and everything. Which sounds ironic to hear from a prominent romance pocketbook writer.
"How about take more break and date for a while?" Date. Huh. Not a bad idea unless you had a girlfriend that gave you a traumatic experience by being in a relationship. Jake is fragile. But not fragile enough to not try. However, he isn't exactly interested in dating anyone... yet
Yeah.
That's a big problem, isn't?
"I cant..." Of course, your boss will spit fire after you can't do what should have inspired you the most, it makes sense. Jake's boss probably wins the award for being this patient when it comes to him.
"It's your job"
"to date?"
"No! to write! I'm just suggesting that maybe you should date" A simple resolution for a romance pocketbook writer. Of course. But Jake feels uncomfortable meeting other people right now.
"I-I know, I'm sorry" Wow, Jake feels so small in this chair right now.
A moment of silence, but Jake feels too uneasy hearing nothing "Are you currently dating someone?" What kind of question is that you might ask? Well Jake needs to... ask a very stupid question after this one.
"No" Park Jay, his editor/boss, replied curiously
"How many years have you been managing me?" Jay looked up and probably gave up as he started counting with his fingers.
"I think 5 years"
"How about... add more years and date me?" It sounded more like a squeak, Jake avoided eye contact. It's him against the world. He feels too embarrassed already he doesn't need to see the cold stare of doom from Jay. He'll probably reject this offer without a thought.
"Sure" What do you know, he just slapped Jake in the face, poetically.
"Wait, really?"
