Ella P.O.V.
Screaming, just heart-wrenching screams ringed in my ears, someone is in pain, the stench of blood hit me. Goddess, what is happening?
As I hurriedly put on my clothes, while Jace and Grey stayed shifted in their wolf forms, the screams grew louder, the stench of blood grew stronger. I came out from behind my tree, wearing the flowy white dress that Grey had put there, only to find almost all the wolves part of the shifting gathered in a corner of the clearing.
The source of the loud shrieks was still hidden in the woods opposite to where I was, and so were the others. Some had shifted back to human form while others remained shifted, the common factor being the fear that rose from them in waves.
I looked at Jace, who now stood in front of me protectively; while Grey growled at the future batch of warrior wolves to shift and get ready for the fight. Even though they weren't officially warriors yet, the batch had already been fully trained, theoretically, they'd be fine; all of them began to shift with screams and cries, still not used to the process of shifting,
A loud growl roared through the woods, whoever was attacking us, was now approaching the clearing. The pack warriors, Jace, and Grey stood in front of the rest, while someone let out a howl calling for help from the others.
A row of glowing eyes looked at us from behind the forest cover, growling, getting ready to pounce on us. It was gonna be a battle against our unknown attackers.
Grey growled loudly at those who'd not be fighting, telling them to stay away from the fight; his gaze turned, into one of kindness as we locked eyes, he nodded, telling me to stay back. I didn't want them to fight, not ever after the first war.
A row of around 25 wolves then appeared out of the forest cover, revealing their big forms, trying to intimidate us. Our warriors, our defense wasn't here yet, everyone was staying away from this region due to the shift today, we were defenseless, only Grey, Jace, and a handful of warrior trainees.
As soon as their wolves were face to face with ours, Grey let out a low warning growl, giving them one last chance to back off before they would fight. A large brown wolf with glowing blue eyes growled back at my mate, he was standing a bit ahead of the others, so he was most likely the highest-ranked out of them, and probably their leader.
Grey let out a war cry, no, please no; don't let it end up like this.
Then the battle commenced, the brown wolf pounced on Grey with a growl. Grey quickly shrugged him off himself, then climbed up on top of the wolf and began clawing and biting. Jace was fighting 2 wolves at the same time, both of them attacking him from opposite sides. When they both pounced at him together, Jace used his extraordinary speed to trick them into crashing into each other, then got on top of them.
Our handful of warrior trainees was occupied in their own brawls, we were too outnumbered.
That's when the first body dropped with a low thud, the first life had been taken; I looked at the brown wolf that was attacking Grey, lying motionless on the rugged ground in a pool of its own blood. Grey growled loudly, challenging the others to have a go at him, his red eyes glowing brighter than I'd ever seen them, while his snout was dripping blood.
"Make them stop Ella, they can get hurt in a battle like this", said Marina in my head; since she was a psychic wolf she felt emotions much much deeper than me, or anyone. It was eating at her seeing all this bloodshed and the imminent danger on Jace and Grey. She wept for all shed lives, even those of the enemy; but better it be them than my pack.
"Marina, calm yourself please, there's nothing that can be done at this moment", I reassured her.
"No Ella, I can feel that something bad is going to happen, stop them", she screamed at me.
